At least 19 people killed in Pakistan attack - RTE.ie

A suicide bomber has killed 19 mostly Sunni Muslims and wounded 45 in a crowded market outside a mosque in Pakistan's northwestern town of Hangu.

Hangu, part of Pakistan's border region with Afghanistan, has been racked by sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia tribes.

It is just a few kilometres from Parachinar, which has a significant Shia population against whom hardline Sunni militant groups have launched attacks for years.

Virar man behind obscene letters held - Times of India

A 23-year-old man, Suresh Rane, has been arrested for writing anonymous obscene letters to women members of his housing society in Virar (W). The police made all men in Sai Charan Apartments, including the husbands of the complainants,

give a written declaration that they had not written the letters. Rane's handwriting matched that in the letters.

Accused Suresh Patta, a former colleague of the woman had made a marriage proposal to her but she fixed her marriage with an another person, police said.

19 people killed in Hangu blast - Frontier Post

HANGU: At least 19 people have been killed while twenty others injured as a result of a blast in Pat Bazaar of Hangu. According to police, an explosion occurred near a mosque in Pat Bazaar when people were coming out of the mosque after Friday prayers.

Security forces reached the blast site and cordoned off the area while rescue teams are shifting the injured to the hospital.

Sanbornton man arrested on drug charges - The Union Leader

SANBORNTON - A 24-year-old local man has been charged with sale of narcotic drugs, according to police.

Police arrested Nicholas Godbout, 671 Hunkins Pond Road, according to Police Chief Stephen Hankard.

Godbout was charged with sale of controlled/narcotic drugs, a Class B felony, Hankard said in a press release.

Godbout is being held on $10,000 cash only bail. He will be arraigned in Franklin District Court on Monday.

Kathmandu: A police official says two people were killed when an untralight aircraft crashed in bad weather in a resort town in Nepal.

Police official Pitambar Timilsian says both the Nepalese pilot and the plane's only passenger, a Chinese tourist, were killed when the aircraft slammed into the side of a mountain in Pokhara today.

Pokhara is located 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of the capital, Katmandu.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana mother and son are arrested after police find drugs in their home.

Ellen Johnson, age 55, and 36-Year-Old Michael Campbell were arrested Sunday night at their Charlestown home by Indiana State Police.

Investigators found marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

Both are charged with several drug related felony and misdemeanor charges.

Police make drugs arrests - U.TV

A 29-year-old man was arrested and a quantity of suspected cocaine seized after police stopped a car in the Rodney Parade area of west Belfast shortly after 10pm on Wednesday.

In a follow-up search of a property in the Wolfhill Manor area of north Belfast on Thursday two men, aged 28 and 33, were arrested and a quantity of suspected cocaine and drugs paraphernalia also seized.

All three are in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

Obscene word scratched on wheelchair access van - This is South Wales

OFFICERS are investigating after a wheelchair access van was damaged in a Carmarthen supermarket car park.

The grey Renault Trafic van had an obscene word scratched into the front passenger door when it was parked in the town's Tesco store, between 12.30pm and 1.05pm on Tuesday, December 11.

Anyone who may have seen this incident or any suspicious activity is asked to contact officers at Carmarthen Police Station on 101.

    Two people have been arrested after the seizure of a quantity of drugs during a Garda raid in Dublin.

    Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €120,000 were found during the planned search of a house in Templeogue, Dublin.

    RICHMOND, R.I. (WPRI) - A 14-year old girl has been arrested after making a post on a photo-sharing site.

    School officials at Chariho High School received a tip on December 20 about a student who may have had drugs, after she posted a picture of paraphernalia to Instagram.

    Authorities questioned the girl, and searched her belongings -- finding the drugs. She was arrested and is charged with marijuana possession.

    Corrections officer at Kent Institution arrested for drug trafficking - Vancouver Sun

    A corrections officer at Kent Institution has been arrested for allegedly trafficking drugs into the prison.

    The officer, Paul Fleming, 42, of Agassiz, has been charged with two counts of trafficking a controlled drug. Police say the drugs are believed to be marijuana and methampethamine.

    RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck said the arrest followed an investigation with Correctional Service Canada.

    Fleming has been released from custody on several conditions and will reappear in court January 29.

    Police arrest man in possession of 4 kinds of drugs, child in car - WSOC Charlotte

    Police said they found four different kinds of drugs and a child in a man's car after they pulled him over.

    Police arrested Kwmane Walls on Thursday on Interstate 85 in Concord.

    According to the report, officers said they found marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and pills in his car.

    He was also cited for not maintaining his lane and for not properly restraining the child.

    He is free on bond Sunday night.

    Up to 14 people killed after Bangladesh ferry sank - RTE.ie

    Up to 14 people have been killed and five are missing after a ferry sank in Bangladesh.

    The ferry carrying 50 people collided with a sand barge and sank on Bangladesh's giant Meghna River.

    Six of the dead were children, aged between two and 10.

    The Meghna River is one of three rivers that forms the Ganges Delta.

    Unregulated and overcrowded ferries often run in to trouble on low-lying Bangladesh's extensive network of rivers.

    Two people were arrested after a stabbing that injured one man in Longs Monday evening, said Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County police.

    Police found a man suffering from a stab wound in his upper body on the 9000 block of S.C. 90 in Longs. He was taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition, Kegler said.

    Detectives said the victim was assaulted by two suspects during a drug transaction.

    Student arrested on last day before Christmas break for drugs - CBS 21

    The last day before Christmas break was not a lot of fun for a Dauphin County teen.

    Juvenile probation officers showed up at Williams Valley High School to arrest a 17-year-old on charges involving a stolen hand gun.

    When they took the student into custody, he was in possession of 28 prescription pills in a plastic bag. The teen was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and committed to a juvenile detention facility.

    BRADFORD TOWNSHIP, CLEARFIELD COUNTY - Police arrested a 20-year-old man Saturday evening after discovering "a significant amount of illegal drugs" in his vehicle.

    State Police from Clearfield Barracks stopped to check on 20-year-old Jason Wisor of Mineral Springs after finding his vehicle stopped along Zimmerman Road north of State Route 322. Police found Wisor was in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

    Wisor was arrested for possession of drugs with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    WRENTHAM (CBS) – Dozens of teenagers were arrested early Sunday morning after being caught drinking and using drugs at a Wrentham hotel.

    Police arrived at the Arbor Inn Motel after receiving reports of loud noise.

    The officers said they could smell marijuana as they walked toward the room.

    In all, 31 teens were arrested and charged with underage drinking and drug use. Two adults, both 22, will face charges of supplying the alcohol.

    A 60-year-old Napa man was arrested Thursday after he met with undercover agents in the 1300 block of Trancas Street on suspicion of selling narcotic pills, according to the Napa County Sheriff's Office.

    Anthony Wiley allegedly had 100 narcotic pills and an unspecified amount of marijuana in his possession, authorities said.

    He was booked at 2:36 p.m. into the Napa County jail on suspicion of drug transportation and drug possession for sale, according to the jail logs.

    Plane crashes in Laos, 39 people killed: Thai TV - NDTV

    Bangkok: An aircraft crashed into the Mekong river in Laos on Wednesday and 39 people were killed, media reported.

    A Lao Airlines plane on an internal flight from the capital, Vientiane, to the south of the country, crashed into the Mekong in the late afternoon, China's Xinhua state news agency said, citing the airline.

    A television station in neighbouring Thailand said 39 people had been killed. Airline and government officials in Laos were not immediately available for comment.

    Two people killed in wrong-way crash - FOX 4 News

    A driver and his passenger were killed early Sunday going westbound in the eastbound lanes on the President George Bush Turnpike.

    It happened just before 4am. A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety says a Mini Cooper with two people inside crashed head on with an SUV near Josey Lane.

    The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries. The DPS spokesman says there is likely video of the crash which investigators will review. 

    Two arrested for making obscene gestures at minor girl - Zee News

    Rewari: Two youths were arrested for allegedly making obscene gestures towards a 15-year-old girl here Tuesday.

    Sukhbir and Ritu Raj were arrested for making obscene gestures to a girl at Buroli village, about 15-km from here, police said.

    The incident took place when the girl was looking after her father's shop in his absence, they said.

    Based on the girl's statement, a case has been registered against the two accused, according to police.

    On Wednesday, Palmyra Police arrested Michael Scheetz, 62 of Palmyra.

    Scheetz faces stalking and harassment charges for incidents that occurred between July and November. Scheetz was following an employee of the Lebanon County Transit Authority in public, making obscene gestures and comments.

    This caused emotional distress to several employees at the Transit Authority.

    Scheetz was transported to Lebanon County Central Booking, where he was arraigned and bail was set at $60,000. Scheetz is at Lebanon County Correctional Facility.

    Van arrests leads to drugs - The Star

    Officers followed a van onto the Sheffield Parkway from the M1 and arrested the men after stopping it early on Tuesday and recovering £36,000 worth of cannabis plants.

    As a result police went to industrial premises on Gunhills Lane, Armthorpe, where they found evidence of an alleged cannabis set-up.

    The men in the van, Beau Bunting, aged 26, of no fixed address, and Paul Brashaw, 28, of Castledale Croft, Sheffield, have been charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply.

    Jodhpur: In a shocking incident, a primary teacher has been accused of writing an obscene letter to his minor students who studies in a government school in Kaankrala Nada village in Jodhpur.

    The accused Om Prakash Patel teaches in the school. He also runs a private school. The man is alleged to have made obscene remarks at the girl.  

    The accused is married. Police is searching for the man.

     

    Sullivan University student arrested for drug trafficking - WDRB

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a student was doing more than just learning at Sullivan University.

    According to an arrest report, officers got a tip that Brian Guidi had illegal drugs on campus.

    When officers searched his car, they say they found marijuana and bottles of prescription pills.

    Guidi was arrested at the University and charged with drug trafficking and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Two Kelowna women could face drug charges after police executed a search warrant Tuesday night in the Glenmore area.

    The women were arrested inside a home on Moubray Road and police found various quantities of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate), cocaine, crack cocaine, crystal meth, methadone, heroin, marijuana and pills.

    The 33-year-old and 47-year-old women face potential charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

    They were released on a promise to appear in court on November 14, 2013.

    A woman of Sudal village of the Yamunanagar district complained to the Farkpur police station, that a 22-year-old youth named Rulda Ram of their village, who does farming stopped his daughter studying in VII class on her way to the school and showed her the clips.

    BILSTHORPE: Arrests after drugs raids - Mansfield Chad

    Three people have been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis following police raids on two addresses in Bilsthorpe.

    Officers executed warrants on Church Street and Lansbury Road on Tuesday and recovered a quantity of what is believed to be cannabis.

    A 64-year-old man, a 46-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were all arrested.

    Four people have died in an avalanche in Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands.

    A party of six climbers, three men and three women, were caught up in the avalanche on Bidean Nam Bian at around 2pm.

    Northern Constabulary, the force that polices the Highlands, said one woman from the same party was in hospital in a very serious condition. The sixth climber, who raised the alarm after the avalanche struck, was safe and well and being cared for by emergency services.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Halloween party in Sacramento turned deadly overnight after a gunman shot seven people, killing one.

    The shooting happened at 1:40 a.m. outside Studio X on Del Paso Boulevard in north Sacramento, say police. A car sedan drove by and opened fire on bystanders.

    GUILFORD -- The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman Wednesday for child endangerment after using obscene language and gestures in public.

    47 year old Charity Rifenbark is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Deputies say the arrest was a result of an investigation into a harassment complaint. Deputies say Rifenbark used obscene language and made obscene gestures in public and in the presence of a 2 year old child.

    Rifenbark will appear before the Town of Guilford Court on January 22.

    BEIRUT: Drugs concealed in a package bound for an Arab country have been confiscated and the sender arrested in east Lebanon, the Lebanese Army said Wednesday. In a statement, the Army said the "suspicious" box contained two metal discs used by cranes. It said the Army lured the sender – identified as Syrian Bassel Jaafar Zaitoun – who was arrested Tuesday in Chtaura, east Lebanon.

    School officials at Chariho High School received a tip on December 20 about a student who may have had drugs, after she posted a picture of paraphernalia to Instagram.

    Authorities questioned the girl, and searched her belongings -- finding the drugs. She was arrested and is charged with marijuana possession.

    Authorities say 4 people killed when small plane crashes near southeastern ... - Washington Post

    The plane apparently crashed in a field, then went down a steep hill before stopping in a wooded area. Greensburg police Capt. Bill Meyerrose said the weather hampered the search for the wreckage, which wasn't found for about four hours.

    The victims were two Greensburg couples. Meyerrose identified them as 46-year-old Donald P. Horan, 44-year-old Barbara L. Horan, 45-year-old Stephen A. Butz and 42-year-old Denise L. Butz.

    2 people killed, 2 injured in Darlington County wreck - The Republic

    DARLINGTON, S.C. — Two people have been killed and two others injured in a wreck in Darlington County.

    South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones says the wreck happened at an intersection shortly after 4:15 a.m. Wednesday. Jones says a car ran off the road and into a tree.

    He says the two survivors were taken to a Florence hospital for treatment.

    The names of the victims have not been released.

    Troopers are still investigating.

    FOUR people have been arrested over the seizure of £160,000-worth of drugs.

    Police say they seized about 50kg of benzocaine, an anaesthetic commonly used as a cutting agent to bulk out other drugs such as cocaine, and around 4kg of a substance believed to be the class-B stimulant Alpha PVT from a house in Johnstone, Renfrewshire.

    Officers acting under warrant searched the house in Churchill Avenue at around 7.05am yesterday.

    Three men, aged 16, 21, 57, and a woman, 49, were arrested and are in police custody.

    UPDATE: Two people have been killed after they were trapped in a car fire when their vehicle crashed about 100km north of Esperance.

    One person has been taken to hospital.

    District of Columbia police have released the identities of two people killed in a fatal fire in southeast Washington earlier this week.

    Athens County Sheriff's deputies have arrested two people during a traffic stop.

    According to the Sheriff's Department, deputies Matt May and Alan Warren stopped a vehicle on State Route 33. The driver of the vehicle, Davis Schuetzman, 50, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

    A sheriff canine indicated to deputies there were drugs in the vehicle. A search yielded pills and heroin. The passenger riding with Schuetzman, 25-year-old Samantha Hummel, of Columbus, OH, was arrested for possession.

    Police have arrested three men after more than £1m worth of drugs were seized in Lincolnshire.

    Officers found several hundred kilos of cannabis and a "significant quantity" of heroin after searching a lorry in Spalding, Lincolnshire, and another in Cambridgeshire.

    The three aged 47, 48 and 51, were arrested in connection with the seizure on Tuesday, police said.

    They said the men were assisting officers' enquiries.

    Teens among 4 arrested for drugs in Raleigh County - WVNS-TV

    A police chase and traffic stop leads to four drug arrests for marijuana and two of the arrested were teens.  This happened Thursday afternoon in Lester, Raleigh County, according to officers.

    Police chased the suspects for three miles.  Officers say they could see people inside the car throwing things out the windows.

    After the arrest, police found about 100 bags full of marijuana, with a street value of almost $1,500.

    The two teens were released into their parent's custody.

    SHERBROOKE, Que. - Police have arrested 23 people while breaking up an alleged drug-trafficking ring in Quebec.

    Some of those arrested are being linked by authorities to criminal biker gangs.

    Provincial police also seized cocaine, cannabis, methamphetamine, firearms and about $25,000 in cash during a series of raids.

    The arrests took place in different cities and towns in the province's Eastern Townships.

    Two people from Brooklyn, New York are behind bars - in Putnam County.

    Barrington Howell and Quita Kellum were arrested early Monday morning after being pulled over for erratic driving.

    Indiana State Police found these 21 counterfeit traveler's checks, along with items recently purchased with those checks, and a fake driver's license.

    A Clay County K-9 was called in, and the dog discovered traces of marijuana and Hydrocodone pills in the car.

    Each are being held on four felony charges, including theft, counterfeiting, fraud and drug possession.

    At least 21 people have been confirmed dead in the massive flooding in Wulan county, northwest China's Qinghai province, as of Wednesday.

    Wulan county was hit by a heavy rainstorm at 19:50 pm on Tuesday, which triggered flash floods in the valleys. Some makeshift tents on the mountainside, which housed nearly 60 construction workers, were destroyed in the floods.

    Some of these workers failed to escape from their tents. More than 20 workers were washed away in the floods.

    Currently, 21 people have been confirmed dead, with 7 hurt and 3 missing. Rescue work is still underway.

    He was held this morning while on his way to Qormi to traffic the drug, the police said. He was found in the possession of cocaine packed in sachets.

    During another investigation yesterday, the squad also arrested a 24-year-old man from Birzebbugia for possession of counterfeit money.

    Both men are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.

    MOSCOW, July 13 (UPI) -- At least 17 were killed Saturday when a truck carrying crushed stone crashed into a bus in Moscow, police said.

    Moscow's emergency services said in a statement 14 people died at the scene of the crash and 22 others were been hospitalized, RIA Novosti reported.

    ITAR-Tass reported the death toll had risen to 17 later in the afternoon.

    "Three people died at hospital in Podolsk. At present, the death toll has risen to 17," Emergency Situations Ministry spokeswoman Irina Rossius said.

    A man in his 20s is in custody following the seizure of drugs worth an estimated €140,000 in Kerry last night.

    Gardaí from the Kerry divisional drug unit, assisted by local units, searched a residence in Ardfert at 7pm. Cannabis herb, cannabis resin, cocaine and a small amount of MDMA were seized during the search.

    A man in his mid 20s was arrested at the scene and is detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) act 1996 at Tralee Garda Station.

    Man arrested after class A drugs seized in Edinburgh - BBC News

    A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged after police in Edinburgh seized Class A drugs from a property in the capital.

    Officers carried out a search of an address in Fidra Court on Wednesday and recovered 9oz of diamorphine and 2.5 kilos of amphetamine.

    A Police Scotland spokesman said the estimated value of the drugs was about £57,500.

    The man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

    A juvenile male, who was a passenger, also was killed. His identity was not released.

    Parkhurst's car was traveling northbound when the accident occurred at 6:09 p.m. Wednesday.

    According to a press release from Jeffersonville Police, narcotics officers with the Jeffersonville Police Drug Investigation Unit found more than three ounces of cocaine, two ounces of marijuana and $4,500 in cash inside a home on Center Street in Jeffersonville where Johnson was taken into custody. A vehicle was also seized from the property.

    DHAR (MP): Eleven people, including five children, were killed on Wednesday and 10 others injured, two of them seriously, when a private bus hit a stationary truck at Panchakwasa village near Badnawar, about 60 kms from here.

    The mishap occurred when the bus was going to Indore from Ahmedabad, superintendent of police, Sushant Saxena told.

    The deceased, who have not been identified, include three women and five children. Those injured were rushed to a hospital at Badnawar and two have been referred to Indore in a critical condition, Saxena said.

    The Productivity Commission's 2013 report on government services showed there were six murders for every 100,000 people in the NT for the financial year 2009-10.

    The national average was 1.2 homicides per 100,000 people.

    But the NT Justice Department statistics revealed there were 15 murders and one manslaughter for the year up until June 2012.

    This is up 36 per cent on the previous year where there were 11 murders.

    Brookport woman arrested in Paducah after undercover drug investigation - WPSD Local 6

    PADUCAH, Ky. - A Brookport woman was arrested in Paducah on Thursday on a drug trafficking charge.

    Police arrested 20-year-old Melissa Dublin after an undercover investigation carried out by the Paducah Police Department.

    Dublin allegedly sold $200 worth a crack cocaine to undercover detectives, leading to her arrest. Police also believe Dublin is working with another person selling drugs in McCracken County.

    Dublin was charged with 1st Degree Conspiracy to Traffic a Controlled Substance, a felony punishable by 5-10 years in prison.

    The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

    Springfield man arrested on weapons, drug charges - The State Journal-Register

    Springfield police reported they discovered drugs and weapons Friday when they served a search warrant at a house in the 1500 block of South Grand Avenue East.

    Marcus J. Moore, 30, who lived in the house that was searched, is facing a variety of weapons charges including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and drug charges, Springfield police said.

    During the search, police reportedly discovered a loaded .357 caliber revolver, a .45 caliber handgun and ammunition. Officers also reportedly found 8.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a couple of baggies of suspected marijuana and two digital scales.

    BHOPAL: Angry over passing of obscene comments on his wife, a man and his son decapitated an 18-year-old youth and chopped one of his arm, before dumping his body in a forest area in Raisen district. Both the accused were arrested on Saturday.

    Police said they had found the mutilated body outside Aeran village, near Sanchi on January 27.

    It was a blind murder case. During investigations police found that Hemant Singh, a resident of Aeran was missing since January 25. After confirmation of his identity, police zeroed in on his neighbour Narpat Singh, 45.

    A man has been arrested after a record cocaine seizure at Kerry Airport.

    Customs stopped and searched a passenger off a plane from Frankfurt and recovered four kilos of the drug, worth about 280,000 euro.

    The cocaine had been hidden in the lining of a rucksack.

    The Revenue Customs service said the arrested man was aged in his 60s and a British subject.

    The drugs haul was the largest of its kind at the regional airport.

    7 people killed in bar in northern Mexico - Ynetnews

    State authorities say that a commando of gunmen burst into a bar in the city of Torreon in Mexico and killed seven people before fleeing in waiting vehicles. The state Attorney General's Office in Coahuila said the gunmen entered the bar quickly early Sunday morning and shot the victims from close range. Five others, including a woman, were injured in the attack. 

     

    Authorities say the Zetas and the Sinaloa drug cartels are fighting each other over control of smuggling routes in Coahuila where Torreon is located. Last week, six people were killed inside different establishments in the city. (AP)

    Former state legislator Mike Smith of Canton serving on the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board for $94,000 per year for meeting once a month comes to about $2,600 per hour.

    As bankrupt as this state is, there still are deals like this. This is more than outrageous, this is obscene. This in a state that cannot pay pensions for its employees. This in a state that cannot help its seniors with their drug prescriptions.

    If this is not government out of control, then I do not know what is.

    Search yields two drug arrests - KAIT

    HOPEWELL, AR (KAIT)- A search warrant was issued in Hopewell and two residents were arrested after drugs and paraphernalia were found at their residence.

    37-year-old Teasha Aguilar and 47-year-old Kenneth Louer were not at 74 Reames Lane when the Narcotics and Criminal Investigators from Cleburne County and the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force searched the home in September.

    Officials are charging Aguilar and Louer with possession with intent to deliver, manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, among other charges including firearms charges.

    Two people killed in car and lorry crash near Tong - BBC News

    Two people have died in a collision involving a car and a lorry.

    The two victims were in the car when it crashed on the A41 between Albrighton and Tong in Shropshire at about 14:20 BST.

    The lorry driver was unhurt but was treated for shock, West Mercia Police said.

    The A41 was closed, diversions were set up and traffic was prevented from joining the A41 northbound at junction 3 on the M54.
