Murder Territory: Violence hits new high - NTNews.com.au

THE Territory is the murder capital of Australia, according to the latest statistics.

The Productivity Commission's 2013 report on government services showed there were six murders for every 100,000 people in the NT for the financial year 2009-10.

The national average was 1.2 homicides per 100,000 people.

More updated comparative figures won't be available until later this year.

But the NT Justice Department statistics revealed there were 15 murders and one manslaughter for the year up until June 2012.

This is up 36 per cent on the previous year where there were 11 murders.
