Rowe, Wade arrested on drug charges - Tahoe Daily Tribune

South Lake El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team members arrested two people on suspicion of drug charges Nov. 2 after the pair allegedly tried to make a hand-off of cocaine and heroin at Barton Memorial Hospital.

South Lake Tahoe resident Jeffery Wade, 50, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics for sale, conspiracy to commit a crime and a probation violation, according to El Dorado County Sheriff's Office booking information. Lisa Rowe, also of South Lake Tahoe, was arrested on suspicion of possession and transportation of a controlled substance, said Jeff Catchings, the task force's commander. Rowe's age was not available Thursday afternoon.

Wade remained in custody in El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe Thursday. Rowe, who has been released on bail, did not immediately return a request for comment. It is unknown whether either has an attorney.

Wade was under investigation for being a "mid-level" drug dealer when task force members spotted him driving in the area of the 7-Eleven near the state line about 3 p.m. Friday, Catchings said. Knowing he had a suspended driver's license, task force members pulled him over at the convenience store.

During the traffic stop, Wade feigned a heart attack and was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital, Catchings said.

While at Barton, hospital employees witnessed Wade pass drugs to Rowe and alerted authorities, Catchings said. Rowe was arrested while leaving the hospital and Wade was booked after being discharged, Catchings said.

The task force recovered 7 grams of heroin and 9.5 grams of cocaine as a result of the arrests, Catchings said.

Heroin continues to be a problem at the South Shore. Authorities have recorded two dozen heroin-related deaths in the area since November 2010, Catchings said.

Manslaughter charge in deaths of 2 homeless people killed by car - Los Angeles Times

A 19-year-old Los Angeles woman who prosecutors say drove her car over a curb and ran over two homeless people, killing them, was charged Tuesday with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, the district attorney's office announced.

Carmen Chavez, 19, who is currently being held on $100,000 bail, is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. Prosecutors say she was driving a 1989 Mercedes-Benz on Sunday when she jumped the curb, struck a wall and ran over Randall Milton and Teryl Sageser, both 51, who were lying on a sidewalk near the corner of 4th and Crocker streets.

Chavez is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, and the complaint alleges that she was driving under the influence of alcohol and under the legal drinking age when the deaths occurred.

If convicted, Chavez faces a maximum sentence of four years and eight months in prison, prosecutors said.

ZEPHYRHILLS — Deputies arrested three men Friday night after a foot chase that turned up guns, drugs and several thousand dollars in cash.

Four deputies were patrolling about 11:50 p.m. near the intersection of Cole Avenue and Bell Street, listed in reports as a drug area, when they came across five males standing outside a vehicle and a heavy smell of marijuana around them, a Pasco County Sheriff's report states.

The deputies stopped and searched them. One deputy found a black handgun in the center console of the vehicle. During the search, the report states, Nicholas Shane Trujillo, 19, took off running, carrying a bookbag.

Upset over obscene remark, girl hangs self - Times of India

She approached college principal Kusum Bishnoi after the second period and told her that she wanted to go home as she was not feeling well. The principal, however, denied permission. After the third period, Shivani again went to the principal once, this time with a written application for leaving early.

When the principal asked the contact numbers of her parents, Shivani reportedly told her that her father Veeru Rajawat was no more and her mother Mamta Devi, an anganwadi worker, had gone for work. Her elder brother Abhay Rajawat studies in Mathura. Since Shivani was good at academics and had never sought exemption from school earlier, the principal allowed her to go home.

Shivani reached her Tilak Nagar house in Kotwali police circle and found her paternal grandfather present there. She reportedly told him that she was not feeling well and went into her room. Later in the evening, when Shivani's mother returned home she found her daughter hanging in the room. She reported the matter to the police. Later, Shivani's classmates told her mother about the remarks scribed scribbled in the class room.

"College principal Kusum Bishnoi said she has formed a committee comprising members of the management to trace the person who had written the obscene remarks," said police inspector Brij Mohan Yadav, in charge of the Kotwali police station under which the incident took place.

Police said no suicide note was found and efforts were on to ascertain the reason behind the suicide. The body was later sent for postmortem.

Police have ruled out possibilities of any foul play in Shivani's death.

"We believe things will be clear once we get the postmortem report by Wednesday afternoon," Inspector Brij Mohan said.

Chongqing pledges thorough probe into official's sex tape scandal - Xinhua

CHONGQING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Authorities on Monday pledged a thorough investigation into the sex tape scandal that has led to the removal of a senior official in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

The Chongqing Municipal Committee for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China said it will not tolerate officials' misconduct, each of the reported cases will be investigated and each official involved will be punished.

Lei Zhengfu, the top official of a district in Chongqing, was removed from his post last week after an investigation by the Chongqing Municipal Committee for Discipline Inspection confirmed that he was the man featured in a sex tape widely circulated online.

The discipline watchdog's pledge came as media reports said a whistleblower in the case alleged that he had video footage of five other senior officials in Chongqing also engaged in sexual acts.

But the city's discipline watchdog said it had not formally received these allegations or the footage by early Monday.

It said Lei's case is being fully investigated and the results will be released to the public in time.

Lei's scandal was among the most discussed on the Internet last week, and his immediate sacking met with overwhelming support from netizens.

Web condemnation from the public has led to the removal of at least three officials in recent months. Yang Dacai, former Shaanxi provincial work safety chief, was sacked in September, and Cai Bin, an urban management official in south China's Guangdong Province, was fired in October.

Yang was caught wearing various luxury watches in pictures posted online, while Cai was exposed as the owner of 22 homes. The value of Yang's collection of watches and Cai's homes far exceed their civil servant salaries.

Bomb attack in northwest Pakistan kills at least 7 Shia worshippers - RT

Kudos to RT for explaining that there is a Shiite/Sunni war on the middle East which has been raging since the Battle of the Camel in 656. This is long before Russia even existed. However Russia has sided with the Shiites and so the Sunnis will be against them. Not wise because most of Russian Muslims are Sunni and the war will be fought in our motherland. That is why this article appeared because Russia is showing sympathy for its allies the Shiites. Big mistake by Moscow. I wonder if you should interview Primakov who is a specialist who speaks Arabic. (Please not that Iranians are not Arabs and they prefer to speak Farsi)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

There is not a war between Shia and Sunnis....it is only Wahhabi-Pseudo Salafi jackals who cowardly massacre Shia children and civilians in general...

These Saudi-Qatari financed Islamists have been killing the Sunni children and civilians too...

If the Islamist jackals financed by the Saudi-Qataris and manipulated by the West are not destroyed...then Russia will have real problems with its large Sunni majority....not only Russia ...the whole world...

Sunni...Shia Muslims Orthodox,Catholic Christians,Hindus,Jews,Buddhist etc... all have at some point in History lived peacefully together so it is not religion that is a problem....But extremists of any religion that can' live with anyone but themselves....

Now the most dangerous are Wahhabi-pseudo Salafi Islamists....they are like an alien parasite contaminating all the body of Sunni Islam...Hundreds of millions of people!

We main stream Sunnis don't see Russia as siding with Shia....we see Sunni world destabilized by the Saudis-Qataris with the help of Western powers....

Syrian rebels: 40 die in hospital strike - UPI.com

ALEPPO, Syria, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Syrian military forces bombed a hospital in Aleppo late Wednesday, killing at least 40 people, rebels charged.

Ralib al-Omar of the Yusif al-Asma rebel group told CNN the attack occurred at the Dar al-Shifa Hospital.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights in London issued a statement alleging 74 people had been killed across Syria, including 27 in Aleppo. It wasn't known if that number included those killed in the hospital strike.

CNN noted claims by the Syrian opposition and government cannot be independently verified because of restrictions imposed on journalists.

An estimated 37,000 people have died in the 20 months since protests began against the government of President Bashar Assad.

In other related developments Wednesday, Syrian neighbor Turkey asked its NATO allies for Patriot missiles Wednesday to bolster its border defenses.

A Turkish government statement said the additional weapons were needed because of "the threats and risks posed by the continuing crisis in Syria to our national security." NATO took the request under advisement.

Gulf News reported George Sabra, president of the Syrian National Council and member of the National Coalition of the Syrian Revolution and Oppositions Forces, said Wednesday the price tag for rebuilding the country after the civil war ends would be high.

"In the first six month after the collapse of the Al Assad regime there will be a need of $60 billion to rebuild Syria," he said.

"We haven't get any loan yet but we will ask for this from the friends of Syria."

Sabra said Syrian businessmen around the world have promised to commit more than $5 billion so far.

A J.L. Mann High Academy science teacher has been arrested on charges she sent lewd texts and photos of herself to two male students.

Michelle Stabach Jensen, 40, of 605 Neely Farm Drive, Simpsonville, has been charged by Greenville Police with two felony counts of unlawful dissemination of obscene materials to persons under 18 years of age, and two counts of contributing to delinquency of a minor.

Arrest warrants allege that Jensen "sent text messages and photographs of herself to a … male student of hers at J.L. Mann High School. The text messages and photographs were sexually explicit in nature," according to a report by the Greenville News.

Jensen was being held at the Greenville County Detention Center on Thursday awaiting a bond hearing.

In an email to the media Thursday afternoon, Greenville County Schools spokesman Oby Lyles said J.L. Mann Principal Charles Mayfield was informed on Friday, November 9 of allegations of inappropriate texts to students after a teacher reported an alleged conversation overheard between students.

"The administration immediately began its investigation and contacted the school's Resource Office with the Greenville City Police," Lyles said via email. "The principal met with the teacher that day and she resigned while the investigation continued. The charges will be communicated to the State Department of Education, which determines revocation of teaching certificates."

This is Jensen's first year with Greenville County Schools. She has been employed since August 15 as a science teacher at the school, initially as a certified sub and then as a full-time teacher effective October 15, Lyles added.

Lacey Jones-McKnight death highlights need for violence prevention: officials - MetroNews Canada

In the wake of the recent murder of Lacey Jones-McKnight, officials said Thursday there's no better time to draw awareness to the issue of family violence.

Jones-McKnight was found dead in the car of her ex-fiancé on Oct. 25. Kristopher (Tray) Guenther is facing second-degree murder charges.

Abuse survivor Melody Bunt Witwer took time to reflect during a prevention campaign launch that she too could have been the victim of a homicide had she not had the support of a friend to help her out of her marriage.

"I think it just emphasizes the need for all of the resources that are available and the continued need to promote it and get the word out…so people know what to access before it escalates to that situation," she said.

As November is Family Violence Prevention Month, HomeFront executive director Kevin McNichol said the most important message is encouraging people experiencing violence to come forward.

"When we know, we can intervene and help change the outcome of some of these situations."

In the case of Jones-McKnight, police had dealings with the couple in the past but Police Chief Rick Hanson said earlier this week, there were no indication it was a high-risk situation.

"We self-reflect a lot when these things happen," said superintendent in charge of the specialized investigation division Sat Parhar. "It's been really hard on our communities and hard on our police officers."

Violence statistics:

  • In 2011, the Calgary Police Service received around16,500 domestic violence calls.
  • Only 3,700 of those calls led to criminal charges.
  • About 200,000 adults report spousal abuse each year in Alberta, according to the Calgary Domestic Violence Committee (CDVC).

Imani Green murder: how violence plagues Jamaica - The Guardian

Owen Ellington, the commissioner of the Jamaica constabulary, has worked to increase public confidence in his officers and promised to crack down on crime and corruption, but still the island is plagued by violence.

While major crime is decreasing, and the murder rate fell almost 5% to 1,087 deaths last year – well down from its 2009 peak of 1,683 – poverty, gang violence and the ubiquity of guns remain serious problems, as does mistrust of the police.

While the number of people killed by police officers also fell last year, the first 12 days of 2013 have seen 18 Jamaicans die at the hands of officers.

Ellington has promised several new crime-fighting initiatives this year, while two former British policemen – Les Green and Justin Felice – have won public trust and respect from within the force for improving its murder investigations and its anti-corruption branch.

Green, who has now left the force after an eight-year stint, and Felice, who now heads the financial investigations division, were awarded OBEs in the Queen's recent New Year honours list.

A watershed in tackling gang violence was the extradition to the US of the powerful and politically connected gangster Christopher "Dudus" Coke in a 2010 operation by security forces that left 73 civilians dead.

However, the murder of Imani Green and an incident on Saturday in which police killed three people show that much work remains before Jamaica can shed its reputation as a violent country.

Police: Drugs found, sold inside candy store; worker arrested - Chicago Tribune

A candy store worker has been charged after Chicago police found illegal drugs were being sold out of the South Side store.

The employee, Gloria Estrada, 46, of the 8200 block of South Houston Avenue, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of cannabis, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department. She is expected in court Sunday.

South Chicago District tactical officers executed a search warrant at the store Saturday in the 3000 block of East 83rd Street in the South Chicago neighborhood and Estrada was arrested, according to the statement.

Police investigating recent violence in that area learned narcotics transactions were taking place inside the candy store, according to the statement.

Earlier this week, surveillance was been set up and two other people were arrested for possession of cannabis and possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine, police said. Those arrests enabled officers to secure the search warrant, the statement said.

Officers recovered four knotted baggies of crack cocaine as well as a large, clear bag containing 20 smaller baggies, each containing cannabis, the statement said. Police also seized cash believed to be the proceeds of narcotics sales.

"Drug spots like this contribute to violence in our communities," South Chicago District Tactical Lieutenant Kevin Milmine said in the release. "It is deplorable that a store of this type was used for drug sales, and it is tremendous work by my tactical officers to shut them down."

Calls to domestic violence hotline surged after recent homicide - KOAA.com Colorado Springs and Pueblo News

Neighbors set candles and teddy bears outside the door of Karen Mamo's apartment on N. Chestnut Street. It was here on Monday night that police say her husband Louis Mamo shot his wife in the head after an argument. He was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Murder.

At TESSA, the domestic violence shelter for women in El Paso and Teller Counties, cases like this are watched closely.

"An incident like this really drives home how lethal domestic violence can be," said Interim Executive Director Janet Kerr.

She says there tends to be a spike in calls to their crisis hotline following high-profile abuse cases.

"Interestingly, it's not always just victims themselves who are calling but people in the community who are worried about someone they love and care about," Kerr said.

She and the other staff members want women in our community to know that they can come to TESSA for help at any time.

Domestic abuse rarely begins as physical violence. Rather, it's words and emotions that an abuser uses to exert control over his or her victim.

"If they're controlling of money, if they're controlling about where someone goes, how they spend their time, with whom they spend their time, what they wear whether they wear make up or not, those are all things to be aware of," Kerr explained.

She says it's critical to get help if you recognize any of those warning signs. Kerr also stressed that anything that's shared with counselors here is kept completely confidential.

The TESSA crisis hotline number is 633-3819. It's available 24 hours a day.

Monett man pleads guilty to possessing obscene cartoons - Monett Times

A Monett man has pleaded guilty in federal court in Springfield to possessing cartoons that depicted child pornography.

Christjan Bee, 36, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge James C. England to possessing obscenity.

On Aug. 8, 2011, Bee's wife contacted the Monett Police Department and reported that she had found files she believed to be child pornography on a computer used by her husband. Police officers executed a search warrant at Bee's residence and seized his computer.

During the forensic examination of Bee's computer, a collection of electronic comics, entitled "incest comics," were discovered on the computer. These comics contained multiple images of minors engaging in graphic sexual intercourse with adults and other minors.

"The depictions clearly lack any literary, artistic, political or scientific value," according to a statement by David Ketchmack, U.S. attorney for the Western District.

Under the terms of today's plea agreement, the government will recommend a sentence of three years in federal prison without parole. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Kelleher. It was investigated by the Southwest Missouri Cybercrimes Task Force and the Monett Police Department.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children.

Celebrity photographer arrested for 'obscene' picture, could face 2 years in ... - RT

Japanese fashionistas have rushed to express their support for the Tokyo-based celebrity photographer Leslie Kee, who boasts clients like Lady Gaga and Beyonce, after he was arrested for selling books containing pictures of male genitalia.

The 41-year-old Singaporean photographer was arrested on suspicion of obscenity after selling the controversial books at his art gallery in Tokyo.

Two employees of the book's publisher were also arrested. If convicted Kee could face up to two years in prison as well as a fine of up to $27,000.

While pornography is widely available and produced in Japan, according to AFP, under domestic law genitals must be blurred through pixellation.

While Japan's Penal Code prohibits the distribution, sale and public display of obscene material, the law does not reportedly define what specific type of content is deemed obscene.

According to The Japan Daily Press, the police found out about Kee's plans to sell the books from an announcement on his Facebook page.

The books in the photographer's 50-page "Super" series sell for about $65 each. According to police, seven copies have been sold since the exhibition opened at the Hiromi Ishii Roppongi gallery.

Japan's leading fashion journalist and magazine editor, Yamamuro Kazz, wrote on his website he was "stunned by the news of Leslie Kee's arrest", adding that Kee's work was only available at a particular gallery event, attended by people familiar with the artist's creative angle.

According to Kazz, "the legal interpretation of whether genitals were exposed or not (and whether the work is obscene or not) is totally irrelevant to the intention of an artist."

A man has been arrested after police seized drugs worth over £100,000 in Aberdeen.

Officers from Grampian Police found "substantial" quantities of diamorphine and cannabis at a property in the city's Bucksburn area of Aberdeen on Saturday.

The force said a 43-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation, a spokesman said.

Sergeant David Ferguson said: "This is a substantial seizure and once again sends out the message that Grampian Police is committed to targeting those who intend to profit by peddling these drugs.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their continued assistance in the fight against drugs and to reassure citizens that we will continue to make the Grampian Police area as hostile an environment as possible for those involved in the sale or supply of controlled drugs."

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man from London is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday after being found in possession of cocaine valued at "a five figure sum".

Sergeant Ferguson, who was involved in this enquiry said, ''Yet again this shows that Aberdeen is being targeted by these unscrupulous drug dealers who intend to profit from those in a more vulnerable position."

Four arrested after Hudson Falls drug raids - Glens Falls Post-Star

HUDSON FALLS -- Four people were arrested Friday night after police raided two apartments in connection with crack cocaine sales in the village, officials said.

Hudson Falls Police searched 21 Baker St., Apt. 1 and 121 Main St., Apt. 7 in coordinated raids that led to the seizure of crack cocaine and nearly $1,500 in cash, said Hudson Falls Police Detective Scott Gillis.

Officers received search warrants after an alleged sale of crack Friday night at the Main Street apartment, Gillis said.

Charged with felony counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance at that home was Nancy Marin, 48, of Brooklyn, Hudson Falls Police Sgt. Scott Moulthrop said. Gillis said $1,500 was seized from Marin.

Police also searched the Baker Street apartment and seized 4 grams of crack that was packaged for sale, Gillis said.

Christopher Martinez, 22, of Troy was charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, Moulthrop said.

Michael Gilliard, 44, of Hudson Falls was arrested on a parole violation warrant, while the woman who rented the apartment, Elizabeth A. Basso, 53, was charged with a felony count of criminal nuisance, Moulthrop said.

Basso was accused of allowing drug activity to take place at her home.

Gilliard, Martinez and Marin were all sent to Washington County Jail, while Basso was taken to Glens Falls Hospital for treatment of a medical condition.

Gillis said police agencies in the region have been increasingly working together as drug activity seems to be on the increase.

"If you're dealing drugs in our area right now, it's not whether you're going to get arrested, it's when you're going to get arrested," Gillis said. "Everyone is sharing information and working very well together."

Top former Dominican anti-drug official arrested on drug charges - Chicago Tribune

The announcement of Hiraldo Guerrero's arrest and extradition was made at a joint press conference by the nation's Attorney General, Francisco Dominguez Brito and the head of the DNCD, General Rolando Rosado Mateo.

The extradition request stated that at least four witnesses, including three who have pleaded guilty in the United States, detailed how Hiraldo Guerrero allegedly used his position to protect large cocaine shipments destined for the United States.

One witness alleged that the colonel was paid as much as $2.5 million to protect 25 loads of cocaine at an average of 880 pounds (400 kilograms) shipped between 2007 and 2009.

Another witness alleged that in 2008, Hiraldo Guerrero requested to be paid in drugs rather than cash to protect a shipment of 1,500 pounds (700 kilograms) of cocaine.

The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo could not be reached for comment on Wednesday evening.

About 4 percent of the cocaine that is smuggled into the United States passes through the Caribbean island of Hispaniola which is shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti, according to the U.S. Department of State's annual narcotics control report for 2012.

Dominican authorities seized about 6.7 tons of cocaine in 2011, the report said.

"Dominican law enforcement, military and government officials are often accused of a range of corrupt activities including narcotics trafficking, money laundering, extrajudicial killing and other crimes," the report added.

In the most notorious case to date, authorities arrested a former army captain, Quirino 'The Don' Paulino Castillo, in December 2004. He was later extradited to the United States where he was imprisoned on drug charges.

Rosado Mateo said Hiraldo Guerrero had served 14 years in different posts at the DNCD.

Border Patrol agent in Arizona arrested in FBI drug smuggling probe - Washington Post

Agents assigned to the Southwest Border Corruption Task Force had been conducting aerial surveillance in the area between Yuma and Wellton, about 185 miles southwest of Phoenix, when they spotted Anaya stop along the fence and retrieve the bundles, the complaint states. It does not say whether Anaya was the target of the initial surveillance or merely observed during the overall operation.

Authorities say the task force continued to track Anaya for several hours as he appeared to return to normal patrol duties.

The complaint says the agent was later arrested with nearly 147 pounds of marijuana found in three black duffel bags in his Border Patrol vehicle.

He is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and carrying a firearm — his service weapons — while committing the crime.

Asked if he was willing to speak to investigators, Anaya responded with an expletive, then said, "You guys got me on video," before asking for an attorney, according to the complaint.

Anaya's federal public defender didn't immediately return a telephone message Tuesday. His telephone number wasn't listed. Union representatives for the Border Patrol's Yuma sector didn't respond to emails.

The FBI, which was part of the task force, declined to discuss the case.

Yuma Sector Chief Border Patrol Agent Stephen S. Martin said the agency will fully cooperate with investigators.

"While I am sorely disappointed by the alleged conduct of one of our own, I appreciate the efforts by our law enforcement partners and our own agents to uncover those that violate their oath of office, and hold them accountable for their actions," Martin said in a statement Tuesday.

Kim Kardashian said to be horrified about second sex tape - NZ City

Kim Kardashian is said to be horrified after a second sex tape starring her has gone on sale for £19 million.

The X-rated footage allegedly features the 32-year-old reality TV star and her ex-boyfriend Ray J engaged in erotic acts which are even raunchier than their first home video which leaked in 2007 and eventually released as a DVD entitled 'Kim Kardashian: Superstar'.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's definitely Kim in the video. And it's even raunchier than her last one. There are all kinds of eye-popping moments."

Kim is said to be terrified the latest sex tape will appear online and cause problems in her relationship with 35-year-old rapper Kanye West.

The source added: "Kim fears this will damage her relationship with Kanye West."

The TV beauty narrowly avoided an embarrassing encounter with R&B singer Ray J, 31, last month when she sneaked out of Prime 112 restaurant in Miami to ensure she missed him.

A source explained: "Kim and Kris Jenner posed for pictures in front of the restaurant to allow Kourtney and son Mason to sneak out the side entrance unnoticed.

"And just by a few moments, Kim missed Ray J, who was seen entering the restaurant to meet a large group of friends including boxer Floyd Mayweather."

Kanye was involved in his own sex tape scandal in September when a 20-minute recording surfaced featuring him and a girl who looks just like Kim.

Stiffer penalties as drug arrests jump - AsiaOne

SINGAPORE - The Government on Monday moved to change laws mandating the death penalty for murder and drug trafficking even as it lengthened sentences for drug peddlers to up to 30 years.

The proposed stiffer penalties come amid a worsening drug situation here which has seen more drugs seized and drug arrests jumping fourfold from seven years ago.

Hardest hit by the proposed changes will be repeat traffickers and those who push drugs to young people aged below 21.

Maximum sentences for those found guilty could go up to 30 years of jail time plus 15 strokes of the cane, depending on the types of drugs peddled.

Two new offences were also proposed, that will make it illegal to recruit the young into the drug trade, and to throw drug parties.

Those who organise such gatherings can be jailed up to 20 years and be given 10 strokes of the cane.

Last year, the number of young, first-time drug abusers arrested spiked 45 per cent to 260, compared to 163 the year before, sparking concerns that the younger set had a more permissive attitude towards drug use. A large number of them had taken the drugs at home or at drug parties.

Other changes proposed in the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill include giving the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) the power to seize psychoactive substances, or legal highs, before they are permanently outlawed, and the introduction of hair analysis to test for drug use.

The changes are aimed at enhancing deterrence even as the mandatory death penalty is lifted for certain carefully defined instances of drug trafficking.

Fla. man arrested for driving under influence of drugs - Beatrice Daily Sun

A Florida man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs early Sunday morning.

According to Gage County Court documents, police were dispatched to the 300 block of Court Street where an alleged drunk driver was looking for drugs at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The vehicle, traveling eastbound on Court Street, turned north onto Sixth Street and later swerved into the southbound lane near North Sixth and Arthur streets. Police conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Chad Smith, 26.

The police report states that Smith exhibited signs of intoxication and showed impairment on three field sobriety measures given.

A preliminary breath test, however, resulted in a .059 percent, less than the legal limit of .08 percent.

During a search of Smith, police located a pill bottle prescribed on Oct. 12 with 30 pills of a generic form of xanax inside. According to the prescription, Smith was supposed to take two pills a day. Police found that 12 pills were left in the bottle as well as one hydrocodone pill, for which Smith could not provide a prescription.

According to court documents, Smith refused to speak with a drug recognition expert, but admitted to taking a hydrocodone and xanax in addition to drinking alcohol, which his passenger confirmed.

Smith, whose address is listed as St. Augustine, Fla., also refused a chemical test.

Police charged Smith with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, a class III felony, refusal to submit to a chemical test, failure to maintain lane and no operator's license. He was booked and taken to the Gage County Detention Center.

Smith's bond was set Monday at $10,000 in Gage County Court. He is scheduled to appear again in court on Nov. 6.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- Two people were killed when a small plane crashed just before noon on Wednesday morning at the Casa Grande airport, according to the assistant chief with the Casa Grande Fire Dept.

The pilot of the twin-engine turboprop plane was apparently doing touch-and-go maneuvers when the crash occurred near the runway.

The plane burst into flames killing both of the people who were on board.

"It looks like the plane exploded on impact," said 3TV news helicopter reporter Tammy Rose. "If they were doing touch-and-goes probably more than likely it was student on board and something just went terribly wrong."

Firefighters quickly put out the fire.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the cause of the crash is unclear. He says an FAA investigator is en route to the scene.

The Casa Grande Municipal Airport is about 40 miles south of Phoenix.

Judge urges tossing out wrongful death claims in Aurora shooting - NBCNews.com (blog)

Claims of negligence and wrongful death against the Colorado theater where a gunman went on a shooting spree in July should be tossed out, a federal magistrate judge said on Thursday.

The Denver Post reported that the decision by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Hegarty applies to seven lawsuits filed last year in federal court against Cinemark, owner of the Century Aurora 16 theater where the attack took place.

The shooting, which left 12 people dead and 58 wounded, sparked at least 10 lawsuits against Cinemark claiming that poor security at the theater enabled the gunman's attack, the report said.

Hegarty says that Colorado law does not allow people wounded or families of people killed in the shooting to make claims of negligence and wrongful death against the theater. His decision is merely a recommendation to U.S. District Court Judge R. Brooke Jackson, who is overseeing the case, but it carries significant weight, according to the Post.

The suspected gunman, James Holmes, is in prison awaiting trial. He is charged with 24 counts of first-degree murder — two for each of the people killed when he opened fire on the audience at a late night showing of "Dark Knight Rises." He is also charged with 116 counts of attempted murder and possession of explosives. Holmes has not entered a plea.

The Century Aurora 16 in the Denver suburb of Aurora, Colo., which was closed after the July 20 mass killing, reopened last week, after months of renovation and redesign.

Whistleblower says scandal videos feature more officials - People's Daily Online

THE whistleblower who uploaded a video that led to the sacking of a district Party secretary in southwestern Chongqing City says he has videos featuring five more senior government officials.

Beibei District's Party Secretary Lei Zhengfu was sacked last Friday after he was identified as the person having sex with a young woman in a video which was widely spread on the Internet.

But the whistleblower, Zhu Ruifeng, told Beijing News yesterday that Lei was only one of six senior Chongqing officials who had been recorded in different sex videos he received from a police insider.

"With Lei being removed from post and another one sacked in the scandal of Chongqing's former Party chief Bo Xilai scandal, four of the six senior officials are still sitting on their chairs in the city government," the newspaper quoted Zhu as saying.

Zhu told the Oriental Morning Post that the insider who gave him the videos was a police officer working at the Chongqing Public Security Bureau. But he refused to identify the other five officials said to be involved in the videos.

Lei was seen in a 36-second clip having sex with an 18-year-old woman in a hotel room. It was part of an 80-minute video, Zhu said. He said the police insider told him the woman, surnamed Zhao, who changed her name to Zhou Xiaolan, was actually a "gift" sent to Lei by a businessman in the construction industry.

He said the video was secretly filmed by the businessman during Spring Festival in 2007 as a means to blackmail Lei to secure contracts from the official.

Boy whose 'death' triggered violence, Bihar bandh found in Delhi - IBNLive

Patna: The schoolboy, whose alleged murder triggered large scale violence in Madhubani district of Bihar and prompted a statewide bandh by the opposition parties on Monday, was found in New Delhi along with a girl with whom he had reportedly eloped.

Director General of Police Abhayanand told journalists in Patna that Prashant Kumar Jha (17) and his girlfriend Priti Chaudhary, with whom he had eloped in September, were found at Mehrauli police station in New Delhi.

He said Mehrauli police station inspector Jarnail Singh had confirmed over phone to him that the two had been found. Prashant and Priti had also spoken to him over the police inspector's mobile phone and confirmed that they hailed

from Madhubani district, Abhayanand said. The Delhi police inspector said the couple were purchasing some goods from a shop at Mehrauli when an elderly person from Bihar identified them on the basis on information in the media and spoke to them to find out their antecedents.

He then phoned the police and a team from Mehrauli police station reached the spot and took the boy and girl to their custody. Prashant was assumed dead after a body was found in Madhubani last week and Jha's family members had laid claim to it. The refusal by police to handover the body to the family and subsequent dharna by its members had sparked off protests by students and general public.

It subsequently escalated to violence and arson forcing the police to open fire in which at least two persons were killed and several others injured. Opposition parties - RJD, LJP, Congress and Left parties observed a day-long bandh in the state against the police action and alleged deterioration in law and order.

British child killed in boat crash - Belfast Telegraph

Wednesday, 3 October 2012

A British child was one of the victims of the Hong Kong ferry disaster, it has emerged.

The youngster was among 38 people killed when the pleasure cruiser Lamma IV collided with a passenger ferry on Monday night.

The cruiser, which was carrying partygoers to a fireworks show to celebrate China's national day, sank shortly after the crash while the ferry was able to limp to shore. More than 100 people were taken to hospital after some were thrown into the water from the party boat.

The Foreign Office has confirmed that a British national was among the victims.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in the Hong Kong ferry sinking. Consular officials from the British Consulate General in Hong Kong are in contact with the family and are providing consular assistance."

Seven crew members from the two vessels have been arrested on suspicion of endangering passengers by operating the craft unsafely. Hong Kong authorities said five children died in the crash.

The passengers on board the pleasure cruiser had gathered on the island of Lamma, around two miles south-west of Hong Kong island, to watch the fireworks display from the water, according to reports.

The majority of the 120 passengers were employees of Hong Kong Electric and their friends and family.

The crash was Hong Kong's deadliest accident in more than 15 years and its worst maritime accident in more than 40.

The company that owns the ferry involved has said the vessel passed an inspection just last month. Nelson Ng, general manager of Hong Kong and Kowloon Holdings, said the inspection of the Sea Smooth indicated no problems.

Several Australian towns flooded, 3 people killed - CBC.ca

Torrential rain over the weekend from ex-cyclone Oswald flooded several towns in eastern Australia, and three deaths were reported Monday.

Downtown businesses in the Queensland state capital Brisbane were inundated, while 1,200 properties were flooded by record-high waters in the city of Bundaberg 385 kilometers to the north.

Helicopters were used to rescue 18 people from the roofs of homes in Bundaberg, Australian Associated Press reported. The town's population is 98,000.

Queensland police on Monday confirmed that three people had died in flood waters since the weekend.

Rescuers freed a man trapped in a drain in Hervey Bay on Saturday night, and three men had to be led to safety after their car became submerged in Bundaberg.

Flooding and torrential rain swamped towns across the Hervey Bay and Wide Bay areas, and at least six tornadoes had hit the region by Sunday morning.

The towns of Bargara and Burnett Heads were declared disaster areas after the tornadoes hit, and the Bureau of Meteorology warned there was a "strong possibility" of further tornado activity, local media reported.

"We've had a terrible night because we didn't know what was going to happen next, and it has rained all night, blowing and heavy rain," one Bargara resident told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Across the region tens of thousands of people are without power, and electricity companies said it could take up to two days to restore services to the affected areas.

As the weather system moves south, hundreds of homes are at risk of flooding in Ipswich, Gladstone and Gympie, local media reported.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe weather warnings for a 500-kilometre stretch of Australia's east coast from central Queensland to the New South Wales border.

Gallaudet student arrested on drug distribution charges - Washington Post (blog)

Police have arrested and charged a Gallaudet University student with intending to distribute drugs after authorities said they found two pounds of marijuana — some baked into fudge and cookies — in her dorm room on the Northeast Washington campus.

A D.C. Superior Court judge on Monday released Molly E. Sachs to a drug treatment center and ordered her to appear for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 31, according to online court records.

Sachs is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a felony.

A university spokeswoman confirmed that Sachs is a student and said the school is cooperating with authorities. Statistics show that in 2011, the latest available, three students at the school for the deaf were arrested on drug charges in dorms, and 147 were referred to campus judicial review for drug-related issues. The school has about 1,100 undergraduates.

D.C. police say in court documents that a school security officer had been notified by a resident assistant about a strong odor of marijuana from a dorm room.

Authorities searched the room, allowed under university rules, and said they found several dozen individually wrapped chocolate fudge squares and cookies "which smelled of marijuana," according to court documents.

A more thorough search, police said in court papers, revealed $1,460 in cash, in a closet, white fudge police said smelled of marijuana, and nine clear bags of marijuana in the bathroom. Police also said they found more than 100 prescription pills.

The drugs, police said, "did not appear to be intended for personal use."

A personal web site the university spokeswoman said belonged to Sachs described the student as a senior majoring in American sign language.

The university spokeswoman would not comment on any disciplinary action.

8 arrested in Wagoner drug sting - kjrh.com

WAGONER, Okla. - Ten suspects were booked in to the Wagoner County Jail on Friday following a massive drug interdiction operation in the town of Wagoner.

The drug interdiction operation is part of ongoing effort by the District 27 DA's office to arrest those who use, make and sell meth.

"We are taking a team approach and we are going after the problem," said District 27 DA Brian Kuester.

Keuster oversees Wagoner, Sequoyah, Adair and Cherokee Counties.

He says his district, along with all of Northeastern Oklahoma, has been hit hard by the meth epidemic. That is why his task force is working to fight it -- and they are seeing success.

The first felony warrant arrest of the day led to the discovery of drugs and a working meth lab in a home north of Wagoner, where three people were arrested.

The task force also made arrests by pulling over vehicles for traffic violations.

Officer found Loritab, marijuana and scales when they busted up what looked like a drug deal in a parking lot of a store in Wagoner.

"I hope it will have an impact, not only on the drug offenders, but I hope it will have an impact on the law abiding citizens," Keuster said, "To know that we are not just sitting idly by, knowing there is a problem. We are going to attack it head-on."

Keuster says operations like this don't just make a dent in the drug trade. He says they also tend to help to bring down crimes that go with it, like burglary and robbery.

Mother arrested after baby, child photographed with drugs - WKYT

LESLIE COUNTY Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - A baby and a five year old were photographed posing with illegal drugs.

The pictures are being considered disturbing and now two Kentucky women are behind bars.

It was more than a routine check that led police to a marijuana patch in Leslie County.

Several pictures of the plants caught their attention.

"They had some disturbing pictures that they wanted us to look at so we went there," said Deputy Adrian Cornett.

A local business called police after developing them, and officers say some of the images raised even more concern.

"There were several children in pictures holding marijuana and had marijuana joints rolled up and was attempting to smoke them," said Cornett.

Police said someone tried to cancel the order but it was too late; they were already being developed.

It was on Lower Bad Creek that officers were able to find what was in those photos.

Beth Hensley, the children's grandmother, was arrested and charged for cultivating and trafficking marijuana, along with Tracy Hensley their mother for endangering their welfare.

"That's just deplorable to think that people would do something like that, like it's no big deal to them and that's just the demeanor they had about the whole situation. They just didn't care," said Cornett.

All five children were taken from the home after the arrests and turned their printed memories into evidence.

Leaders work for solutions to violence - WSFA

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

They are startling statistics.  Montgomery police have added another homicide investigation to their case load every day this week. There have been arrests in four of the five cases, but most people would agree, the violence should never have happened in the first place.

Montgomery's Police Chief said he will take action not only to solve the crimes, but get to the root causes of the violence.

"This is unacceptable, to have this many murders in the city is just unacceptable," said Kevin Murphy, Chief of the Montgomery Police Department.  "And we need to come together to start coming up with solutions to prevent it in the future."

Chief Murphy announced the city will be with working the Dr. Earnest Blackshear, a professor at Alabama State University to work on solving the root causes of violence.  Dr. Blackshear believes many young black men have lost trust in police, and try to take matters into their own hands.  He also said the constant exposure to violence has led them to exhibit symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

"Individuals who have post traumatic stress disorder are very aggressive they are very angry, and if they're undiagnosed and untreated, and they're not in school, we just have a situation on our hands, "Dr. Blackshear said.

Dr. Blackshear plans to work pro bono to find and treat young people who may be showing those signs.  He is also in discussions with local schools to work with at-risk young people.  The community will need to buy in as well, but it's a cost that's worth it when you consider the untold costs of murder on a community.

Two male students of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai high school in southern Vietnam were dismissed from school for one year for making a sex video which was then posted on the Internet by the others later.

The information has been confirmed by the board of administrators of the school in Mo Cay Nam District in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre.

The making of the sex video, which has recently sent shockwaves among the school teaching staff and students, involved five students.

As a result, the strict punishments are imposed on N.K.D, the so-called 'actor', and D.C.H, the so-called 'videographer'.

In addition, the school dismissed T., the so-called 'actress', from the school for one week.

Disciplinary actions are also imposed on the first two viewers of the clips, B.H.N and D.V.N. who then spread it to other students.

All the five students were in grade 10 (aged 15-16 in Vietnam).

Earlier, on September 5, the five students organized a small party with beer after the opening ceremony of the new school year.

D. then had sex with T., while H. sneakily recorded the scene with his camera phone. D then showed the video for the two first viewers.

The clip was then transferred to two other students at Ca Van Thinh high school in the same district just days later. One of them, the 12-grader D.H.K, posted it on the Internet, stirring up local public opinions since then.

The case is under investigation carried out by local police agency.

The municipal Department of Education and Training said it is wafting for official conclusions from the investigation to issue final punishments for all getting involved in the case.

AIDWA demands ban on obscene TV programmes - The Hindu

Says bawdy songs have harmful effect on young minds

All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) State secretary K. Swaroopa Rani demanded ban on TV programmes telecast during late hours bordering on obscenity, especially bawdy film songs.

She observed that such programmes would likely to have a serious effect on young minds.

"We appeal to the government to impose ban on Telugu programmes such as 'Midnight Masala' and 'Idi Mallela Velayani' on television. In fact the appeal was one of the recommendations suggested by Justice Verma Committee for the prevention of sexual assault against women, "Ms. Swaroopa Rani said. "It is unfortunate that children of impressionable age are imitating the characters in such programmes and are lured to bad habits. These vulgar programmes are polluting the youth. According to National Crime Records Bureau, crime against women has increased by 825 per cent in the last few years," she said while speaking at a debate on 'Women Problems – Solutions' in the city.

Insulting titles

Expressing anguish over the fall of standards of filmmaking, Ms. Rani said titles and dialogues in some movies were highly objectionable. "The lewd comments uttered by students on girls, teachers and parents in movies are harming the reputation of our culture. We approached the Censor Board and courts on several occasions and the AIDWA is planning to meet the film directors and producers in this regard," she said.

She also found fault with girls taking part in rave parties, consuming liquor in pubs during nights and smoking in public places, especially in cities. "We appeal to the youth not to pursue such harmful habits," the AIDWA leader advised.

Ten people were arrested and $18,000 worth of illegal drugs seized during a drug bust in Benton County Friday (Feb. 1).

Michael Hill, Dale Shaffer, Jeffery Stout, Melizza Christiansen, Shawn Ewert, Candius Taylor, Sarah Rustin, William Wallace, Donald Eugene Thompson, and Robert Grady were arrested on multiple felony drug charges, according to a report from the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

Benton County deputies and officials from the Arkansas Department of Corrections conducted a home visit at a residence in Rogers after receiving tips that drug sales and other illegal activities were taking place.

More than 165 grams of methamphetamine, 21 grams of marijuana, 49 prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, digital scales, packaging material and a loaded 9mm handgun were found in the home.

Deputies also seized $10,859, surveillance cameras, two vehicles and a large flat screen television, according to the report.

More arrests are expected.

This investigation wraps up a busy month for the sheriff's office's special operations division, the report states.

"Well, I don't think that we should sugar coat it and say that this is going to stop all the drug activity," Sheriff Kelley Cradduck said. "But it is a dent, it's in the right direction. "

In January, deputies made more than 70 arrests during drug investigations and recovered various illegal drugs and firearms.
