SASKATOON It's been a tragic year on Saskatchewan highways.
So far this year, 158 people have been killed on provincial highways, breaking the record of 151 in 2001.
That number has been confirmed by SGI.
Earlier this week, reports suggested there have been 171 highway fatalities this year.
SGI officials say that number includes those who have been killed within city limits, not just on highways.
Officials also backed up Global News reports from the RCMP citing impaired driving as the single biggest contributor to these fatalities.
