Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said authorities stopped the vehicle after it was driving erratically.
Kgasago said it later emerged that the suspect's irregular driving was due to the fact that he had spotted the police car and had attempted to hide the drugs in his underwear.
"He was trying to hide the drugs in his underwear. He lost concentration while driving and was zigzagging. He forgot to put on the hand brake when attempting to flee from his vehicle and the car rolled back and hit our car."
Kgasago said authorities initially found two bags of cat on the 41 year-old, before a search of his flat revealed the remainder of the drugs.
The Nigerian national is believed to be a drug dealer involved in a large syndicate operating in the area.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate's Court on 12 August to face possession and dealing in illicit substances charges.
Meanwhile, Gauteng police arrested three suspects for possession of drugs in Primrose on Thursday.
Police raided a block of flats, part of which was being used as a drug den.
More than R200,000 in cash and drugs including cat, heroin and ecstasy with an estimated value of more than R15,000 was confiscated.
The police's Katlego Mogale said the suspects were charged with money laundering as well as possession and dealing in illegal drugs.
"Police in Primrose received information, which they followed up on. It led them to a flat where the suspects were arrested. They will be appearing in the Germiston Magistrate's Court soon."
