A 48-year-old Napa man was arrested in Calistoga on Sunday morning after he was allegedly found to be carrying drugs, the Napa County Sheriff's Office said.
Robert Wayne Mefferd was pulled over around 10 a.m. on Highway 29 near Tubbs Lane on a suspected mechanical violation, authorities said. When the deputy contacted the man, Mefferd allegedly admitted to having marijuana in his possession, which initiated a search of the vehicle.
The deputy found a smoking pipe that Mefferd had allegedly smashed on the floorboard with his foot, authorities said. Suspected morphine and other pills for which Mefferd did not have a prescription were also found, police said.
Mefferd was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and on suspicion of destroying evidence, according to the booking report at the Napa County jail, where he was taken.
