Two people killed, two hurt in northwest Las Vegas house fire
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Two elderly people were killed in a house fire that broke out in the northwest part of the Valley just before midnight.
Two other people who were at the home are in the hospital suffering from burn injuries and smoke inhalation.
Fire officials said they started getting calls around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday that smoke was coming from a home on Empire Rock Street, just off of Barium Rock Street in Las Vegas.
By the time firefighters arrived, there was so much black smoke, they could hardly see the home from the street.
"Seeing those flames was a horrendous and absolutely devastating site because of its proximity to our home and the fact that we are quite close to the people who live inside there," expressed Donald Toto, neighbor.
The two people who live at the home were able to get out and were taken to the hospital, but they told rescuers there were two people visiting them and those people were still in the building.
The fire quickly escalated to two alarms and it took crews 90 minutes just to get the fire under control.
"It's amazing how fast that takes off. I came out and saw in the far corner there were flames probably 10-15 feet high," said Lucie Toto, neighbor.
They found a man's body inside the home, but didn't find the elderly woman's body until just before 5 a.m.
Fire officials have not yet been able to determine where the fire started in the home or what caused it.
