The minibus was being transported by a ferry across the reservoir of Karoun 3 Dam when it slipped off the vessel and fell into the water on Wednesday, Director of Contingencies at the Provincial Governor's Office Mahmoud Reza Amelazadeh told IRNA on Thursday.
The minibus was carrying 16 people, he said, adding that four of them were rescued and are in good health.
The official said most of the 12 victims were women and children.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
