Letters: Republican cuts in food stamp budget are obscene - Hunterdon County Democrat - NJ.com

To the editor:
In the 1950s, Sen. Joe McCarthy was asked "have you no decency?" during one of his witch hunt Congressional hearings. The same question could now be asked of the Republican party in general and Rep. Leonard Lance in particular with regard to the slashing of the Food Stamp budget. These cuts are especially obscene given the amount of farm subsidies that Washington pours into the agri-monopolies every year — $60 billion over the past ten years.

The Republican-controlled House has taken food out of the mouths of hungry children to fill the pockets of the agri-monopolies … have they no decency?
