A Franklin, LA man is behind bars in the St. Mary Parish jail after dropping a metal pipe commonly used to smoke illegal drugs on the ground in front of a deputy.
Gerald Mitchell, Sr., 55, was arrested on October 16, 2012 at 8:32 p.m. on Irish Bend Road near Gum Point Lane in Franklin for obstruction of justice, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a Schedule II drug (crack cocaine).
A deputy patrolling the Franklin area saw Mitchell walking towards the patrol unit. The deputy made contact with Mitchell.
While speaking with the deputy, Mitchell dropped the metal pipe.
While conducting a search for the officer's safety, the deputy found two white rocks suspected to be crack cocaine on Mitchell's person. Mitchell was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
