COHASSET POLICE: Two men arrested for trafficking cocaine - Wicked Local

On Thursday (Oct. 18) Cohasset Police arrested two Boston residents after executing search warrants on two men and a vehicle and seized 65 packages of cocaine found disguised inside a potato chip can.

The following individuals were arrested:

· Rafael Torres, 30, Roslindale, charged with trafficking in cocaine over 18 grams and conspiracy to violate the drug laws. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000;

· Gabriel A. Martinez, 27, Dorchester, charged with trafficking in cocaine over 18 grams, conspiracy to violate the drug laws and giving a false name to a police officer. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

After Torres and Martinez were arrested, based on an affidavit prepared by Cohasset Police Det. Lt. Gregory Lennon, Cohasset Police, DEA, Boston and Weymouth Police executed a search warrant of an apartment in Roslindale, which, detectives believed, was being used by Torres and Martinez as a stash house for their drugs and seized approximately one half kilogram of powder cocaine. During the investigation, Cohasset Police also seized three vehicles and an undetermined amount of cash.

During the booking process, Martinez provided Cohasset Police with a false name and date of birth. His fingerprints were faxed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Special Processing Center in Clarksburg, W.V., who identified Martinez based on fingerprints from previous arrests.

The charges are the result of a long-term, ongoing investigation into drug sales in Cohasset and Weymouth conducted by the Cohasset Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New England Field Division, Task Force Group II, the Boston Police Department Special Investigations Unit and the Weymouth Police Department Narcotics Unit.

In 2011, Cohasset Police detectives developed information about the trafficking of cocaine from Boston into Cohasset, which led detectives to monitor activity at locations in Cohasset where cocaine sales were taking place. Based on the information obtained through extensive surveillance in Cohasset and Boston as well as other advanced investigative techniques, detectives were able to develop evidence of a Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) that delivered illegal drugs the South Shore. During their investigation, Cohasset Police learned that the Weymouth Police Narcotics Unit was also investigating common elements of the DTO, and a joint investigation was initiated between Cohasset and Weymouth Police, with the assistance of DEA and Boston Police.

Cohasset Deputy Police Chief William Quigley stated, "I want to thank Det. Lt. Gregory Lennon and Det. James McLean from the Cohasset Police Department as well as detectives from the Boston and Weymouth Police Departments and members of the DEA task force, for their tireless efforts and collaboration in this investigation. This operation effectively dismantled a significant drug trafficking organization that was responsible for the distribution of large quantities of cocaine on the streets of the South Shore. This investigation and resulting arrests should send a strong message that we will continue to work with our partners in law enforcement to keep our neighborhoods safe."
