Nov. 21--SANFORD -- Three suspects from nearby counties were arrested Wednesday after allegedly robbing a local drug store and leading police on a car and foot chase, according to local authorities.

Willie Joe Staten Cole, 24, of 6604 Cushing Drive, Fayetteville, was charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of trafficking in opium and one count of resisting a public officer.

James Danjohn Bowden, 20, of 573 Braxton Blvd., Fayetteville, was charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of trafficking in opium, one count of felony speed to elude arrest and one count of resisting a public officer.

Jessika Renee Cardwell, 30, of 62 W. Governor Brandon St., Spring Lake, was charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of trafficking in opium.

Officers responded to a robbery call just before 11 a.m. Wednesday at the CVS Pharmacy at 1802 S. Horner Blvd, according to a news release from Sanford Police Department. Employees reportedly told police that a suspect entered the pharmacy and demanded money and narcotics, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of prescription medication.

Police did not disclose whether money was taken, or how much, but according to Sanford Police Capt. David Smith, the main goal of the robbery was to obtain prescription drugs -- although money and drugs were demanded from the pharmacists.

The perpetrator reportedly wore a wig, according to Smith.

While responding to the call, officers spotted the suspect getting into a vehicle on Lee Avenue, police said, and a pursuit ensued when the officer tried to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle traveled down Lee Avenue and St. Andrews Church Road to Lemon Springs Road/Greenwood School Road before wrecking near 1275 Greenwood Road. The driver, identified as James Bowden, the suspect, identified as Willie Joe Cole, and a female, identified as Jessika Cardwell, were taken into custody.

The two men reportedly were taken into custody after a brief foot chase, according to police, and Cardwell was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported in the robbery or pursuit.

Smith said one of suspects made the comment they had been "planning this hit for weeks," which was the cause for the conspiracy charge.

Cole, Bowden and Cardwell were placed in Lee County Jail. Cole's bond was set at $250,000, Bowden's at $150,000 and Cardwell's at $200,000.
