John Dialinos has left his job as manager of airport security at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in the wake of being convicted of making obscene phone calls to North Ridgeville tanning salons and masturbating outside one establishment.
Jackie Mayo, a spokeswoman for the airport, said she couldn't discuss the circumstances under which Dialinos parted ways with the city of Cleveland, which formally employed him.
Dialinos pleaded no contest to public indecency and two counts of telephone harassment during a court appearance last month. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, 90 days of house arrest and ordered to pay fines and costs.
He also was barred from going near tanning salons for five years and from owning any untraceable communication devices by Elyria Municipal Court Judge Lisa Locke Graves.
Dialinos, 45, was arrested outside a North Ridgeville tanning salon following a lengthy investigation by police in that city into a male who would call salons and ask innocuous questions before making sexually charged comments and breathing heavily and moaning.
In one instance in December, a man matching Dialinos' description was seen masturbating outside a tanning salon by a worker. When he was arrested, police noted that Dialinos had his pants unzipped. He also had a disposable cell phone that contained only contact information for tanning salons in the area.
During his plea hearing, Dialinos' attorney, John Paris, argued that his client suffered from a "loss of impulse control" and had a psychological condition for which he was receiving treatment.
Paris also said that Dialinos and his family had suffered additional punishment because of the extensive media coverage surrounding his arrest.
Dialinos was put on unpaid leave after authorities notified the airport about his arrest, and Paris said during the October hearing that he didn't anticipate his client being allowed to return to work.
Dialinos was temporarily freed from house arrest earlier this month so he could attend a job interview in Baltimore, according to court records.
