Update @ 2:37 p.m.: Police are now reporting three people have died in the Downey shooting. One man and one woman died at the United States Fire Protection company.  Another woman was shot and killed at a nearby residence.

Two people were killed and at least three others injured today in a pair of shootings at a fire extinguisher business in Downey and a house two blocks away that may have been the home of the business owner.

The gunfire erupted at about 11:15 a.m. at United States Fire Protection in the 8700 block of Cleta Street, and a short time later at the nearby home, according to police and Downey Fire Department spokesman Jason Patao.

Patao said initially that two people died and two others were transported to area hospitals. Police said later at least five people were shot, and some may have been driven to a hospital by friends or relatives.

Media reports from the scene indicated that one person died at each shooting location.

Officials said a suspect first went into the business and opened fire, then went down the street to the home, which police said appeared to be a residence of either the business owner or relatives.

"I don't know if they lived there," Downey police Lt. Dean Milligan told KCAL9 at the scene. "… Our belief is there is a definite correlation between the business and the residence. We're not sure if the same person owns both, or if it's a friend or family member of the business owner that owns the residence or vice versa. There's definitely a connection. We're just trying to uncover that at this point."

A neighbor, Dean Wright, told NBC4 the suspect shot two women — a mother and daughter — at the business.

Police at the scene said the suspect drove away from the nearby home in a 2010 black Chevrolet Camaro with California license plate 6LEA010. The car is believed to be owned by one of the victims or relative of a victim.

NBC4 reported that the injured victims were taken to St. Francis Medical Center and Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

"I have absolutely no idea on the rationale or cause of the incident," Milligan told Channel 9. "We're looking into that at this point in time."
