On Wednesday and Thursday last week, West Lothian officers carried out a series of dawn raids on addresses across the county as part of a Lothian and Borders Police enquiry into suspected serious and organised criminals.
Police had already seized £1.5 million worth of drugs and arrested and charged ten people as part of this enquiry. One of those arrested before this week's enforcement activity is already serving a three-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to drugs offences.
A total of 11 addresses were searched during last week's activity, and eight people arrested and charged in connection with alleged drugs offences.
Heroin worth an estimated £10,000 was seized following a raid at an address in Blackburn, and a cannabis cultivation with an estimated value of £4000 was discovered at an address in Armadale. Amphetamine worth £12,000 was seized from a property in Whitburn, along with a firearm and ammunition.
Chief Superintendent Jeanette McDiarmid said: "Operation Focus has once again struck a blow against alleged drug dealers whose activities threaten to blight local communities.
"The arrests that have been made highlight our ongoing commitment to making West Lothian safer for the vast majority of hard-working and law-abiding people who are proud to live here.
"Working closely together with our local partners in West Lothian Council and elsewhere, we carried out a range of activity over the course of last week to deliver a strong message to communities that we are working hard on their behalf.
"Operation Focus will continue to improve the quality of life for residents in West Lothian, and I would ask the public to help us by reporting any information they have about criminal activity in their community, either directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
