Twitter May Have Considered 'The [Obscene] Bird' For Logo - Social Barrel

Before "Larry the Bird", Twitter considered using "The Bird" – that obscene hand gesture – for its logo.

That is if these drawings which have surfaced on Dribble and first noticed by Slate are to be believed.

"And who is Larry?" you ask? "Larry the Bird" is actually the world-famous Twitter bird, an obvious play on the name of the basketball superstar.

In the images of what could be the early stages of the Twitter logo, you'll see a multitude of ideas – including "The Bird" drawn on brown paper towels.

However, "The Bird" isn't the only logo idea to stand out among the bunch. There is a logo consisting of two hands forming a bird. There is a bird with hands as wings. There is a bird that incorporates four hands.

There is a bird that appears to be smoking a cigarette and also a bird that has hair and is wearing sunglasses. You'll also notice that the design team, if these photos are real, contemplated using the "@" sign for the Twitter logo.

Here are the photos:

And those wondering if the site's bird is really named "Larry the Bird", here are tweets from Twitter's Ryan Sarver and from the Twitter Twitter account itself.
