Girl's murder leads to violence in Faridabad - Daily Pioneer

Violent protests erupted in Faridabad after a class 12 girl was found murdered in the NIT area of the city on Friday.

The girl's body was discovered in a paying guest accommodation. Her throat had been slit and there were multiple stab wounds on her abdomen.

Police said that the girl, who left home for tuitions at around 3 pm on Thursday did not return till late in the night.

When all attempts to find her failed, her worried parents lodged a complaint with the police.

Later, the police got a call informing them that the lifeless body of a teenage girl was lying in a paying guest accommodation at NIT, Sector-5 in Faridabad.

As news of the murder spread on Friday, angry residents gathered at the Neelam Chowk flyover and VK Chowk and blocked traffic for five hours.

They also pelted stones on the house of Sonu alias Ram Gopal, a scrap dealer, who they suspected of murdering the girl.

The mob also torched a motorcycle and surrounded the NIT police station.

The angry crowd dispersed only after senior police officers intervened and promised strict action against the accused Sonu (30) who was arrested on charges of murder. Sonu, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Nagar in Sector-5, is married and has two children.

Sonu, who was in love with the victim, had been stalking the girl for some time, but she did not respond to his overtures.

A senior police officer said: "Sonu met the girl on Thursday when she was on her way to tuition and he convinced her to accompany him to the paying guest accommodation where they had a heated argument and a scuffle.

"In a fit of rage Sonu slit the girl's throat and then slashed her abdomen several times. Then he fled from the scene of the crime.

At around 10 pm, an attendant of the PG saw some blood stains near the door.

Suspecting foul play he informed the local police."

During the protest, many people alleged that the girl had been raped and murdered by the accused.

However, the police have not confirmed the allegations of rape as yet.

According to Navdeep Singh Virk, Joint Commissioner of Faridabad police, there is a possibility that the girl went with Sonu to the PG accommodation of her own free will as there were no complaints from the PG initially of any disturbances.

The accused has confessed to killing the girl, however, he has still not revealed the reason behind the murder.

"It is too early to reach any conclusion and we have registered a case of murder against Sonu. "A police team is also interrogating the PG owner."

Local police have conducted the post-mortem of the deceased and doctors have sent her swab and viscera samples to Madhuban laboratory for confirming the possibility of rape.
