Deputies report two with drugs and needles arrested near school - Record-Searchlight

Two people were arrested Monday in Burney on suspicion of having controlled substances and illegal weapons after a sheriff's deputy spotted the pair on an elementary school campus.

The deputy saw a man and a woman walking across Burney Elementary School campus at about 1 p.m. When the deputy asked them why they were on the campus, the man looked around and attempted to reach for something under his shirt, according to a news release from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

When the deputy tried to detain the man he ran away. Another deputy joined the chase, and they caught him a couple blocks away, officials said.

Officials said the man, Trevor Doyle Linares, 24, had two throwing knives, methamphetamines and numerous hypodermic needles. The woman with Linares, Alicia Lynn Hardin, 23, had a hypodermic needle and controlled substances with her, officials said.

Linares was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of having illegal weapons, hypodermic needles and controlled substances. Hardin was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of having hypodermic needles and controlled substances.
