Police were looking for a wanted suspect.
Instead, they found weapons, drugs and thousands in cash.
That's the quirky backdrop behind a police visit to a West Kildonan home early Saturday resulting in the arrest of a 27-year-old man who now faces multiple charges.
Officers went to a home in the 1st 100 block of Hutton Street around 3:30 a.m. Saturday in hopes of finding a man they have an arrest warrant for, Const. Eric Hofley said.
Once there, however, officers saw drugs and guns inside the home and moved to seize them, said Hofley.
A .303 rifle, two replica guns (including one which looked like a mini-Uzi machine gun), ammunition, cocaine worth $680 and a small amount of ecstasy were among what police found, along with $4,930 in cash, Hofley said.
Three people were initially taken into custody, but only Lloyd Rodney Beardy was charged.
Beardy faces drug-trafficking and weapons-related charges, along with an allegation he possessed the proceeds of crime.
He was held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
