JOHANNESBURG - There are fears violence could flare up in Boksburg following the murder of a business owner in the area and a subsequent mob justice incident.
A shop owner was shot five times at East Rand Trader Square on Saturday after he apparently refused to hand over cash to three men.Police say colleagues and shoppers rushed to get the man to a hospital, but he died on scene.
Witnesses say the suspects fled on foot but residents caught up with one of them and more than 50 of them assaulted him.
A man who witnessed the incident said it was chaotic.
"They managed to catch one suspect and brought him back into the premises. Mob justice started and everybody was attacking and beating the guy. They were pushing and shoving the glass doors trying to get hold of him.They wanted to kill him."
Two pistols were recovered at the scene by the police. Two of the men have since been arrested while police are searching for the third.
