188 people people killed on roads in island of Ireland in 2012 - Insideireland.ie

Following the two deaths on roads in Clare and Galway at the weekend, 188 have been killed on Ireland's roads this year so far.

At 9am on Monday 19th November, 152 people had been killed in the Republic, with 36 in Northern Ireland.

According to An Garda Síochána, there were 23 Pedestrian deaths, 26 Passenger and 76 Driver fatalities as of Monday 19th November.

The PSNI said that so far in the North, 17 Drivers had died, as well as six Pedestrians and eight pasengers.

A driver died on Sunday morning in Galway and a woman was killed in Clare a few hours later

A driver in his early 50?s died when his car hit a wall in Kildaree, Williamstown in Co Galway on Sunday morning.

He was later named as Jeremy Dee, and was the manager of Castlebar Celtic women's soccer team.

Mr Dee had been seriously injured in the collision, and was pronounced dead at Mayo General Hospital later on Sunday.

Two women passengers in the car were not seriously injured.

It is understood the car was travelling to Sunday's Bus Éireann Women's National League fixture against Shamrock Rovers.

John Delaney, chief executive of the FAI, said he was 'deeply saddened' at this 'tragic loss'.

"I had enormous personal regard for Jeremy's wide ranging contribution to the Irish football family," Mr Delaney said.

"He represented all that is good about volunteerism and is an enormous loss to the development of women's football, particularly in the west of Ireland.

"He always had a positive attitude and would light up any room with his enthusiasm and smile. I take this opportunity to offer my sincere condolences to his family."

The match was cancelled as news of the accident filtered through to Tallaght Stadium.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 20s died after a car crashed near Ennis in County Clare around 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

Gardaí said a single car with two female occupants crashed on the northbound lane of the M18 at Ballylion in Barefield.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second woman in her 40s received minor injuries in the incident
