Two men from Weslaco were arrested at a Brownsville port of entry after U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it found nearly $1 million of methamphetamine and cocaine in their truck.

Jesus Navarro and Isidro Martinez were charged Tuesday with intentionally possessing with the intent to distribute a controlled substance.

The pair made their initial appearance Tuesday and requested court-appointed counsel. They are being held without bail and a detention-preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.

According to a criminal complaint, Martinez and Navarro attempted to enter the United States at the B&M Bridge Monday in a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup.

CBP said the men didn't declare any contraband, but a secondary inspection turned up approximately 45 pounds of methamphetamine and a little more than 7 pounds of cocaine hidden inside the truck's body, according to the criminal complaint.

The drugs were wrapped in 28 packages. Customs officers valued the meth's street value at around $697,500 and the cocaine at around $224,000.

CBP officers turned over the narcotics, the vehicle and men to the Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations division.
