Sex blog couple could face criminal prosecution over obscene material - The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — A Malaysian couple faces the possibility of criminal prosecution and jail time if convicted for exhibiting obscene material after they posted photographs and videos of themselves having sex on their blog, which has been removed after it went viral in recent days.

Alvin Tan Jye Yee, a Malaysian National University of Singapore (NUS) law scholarship holder, and his girlfriend Vivian Lee were seen engaged in several sex acts on their "Sumptuous Erotica" website.

Tan said yesterday that he has since taken down his joint sex blog with Lee "because there has been too much trouble for this and we want to stay out of trouble." Videos and images, however, have been copied and circulated elsewhere.

But police Commercial Crimes chief Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said yesterday that the authorities were considering taking action against the duo for violation of obscenity laws.

He said the matter would be referred first to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Under section 292 of the Penal Code, the couple could be prosecuted for exhibiting obscene material.

The punishment under the law is imprisonment for a term of up to three years or a fine.

Yesterday, the NUS Board of Discipline said it would investigate the ASEAN scholar who posted sexually explicit videos and pictures of him and his girlfriend online.

In a statement yesterday, NUS confirmed that the student is with the NUS Faculty of Law and on an ASEAN undergraduate scholarship.

"He is currently on leave of absence and is not receiving scholarship funds," said the spokesman.

Lee said she had no regrets making her sexual life an open book.

"I see nothing wrong in posting the nude pictures and videos of our sexual relationship on the Internet. It was intended for the world to see how much we love each other. I cannot understand why people have to make so much fuss about this. It is our private affair," Lee was quoted saying in a report in The Star Online today.

In their sex blog, Lee, 23, and boyfriend Tan, 24, shared sexually explicit photographs and videos depicting the couple in various states of undress and sex acts. The images vary from artistic portraits of the couple, to close-up shots of their genitalia. 

The blog has since been taken down by the pair, leaving only an archived page with thumbnails of their previous posts dating from September 20 up until October 15, but photographs and videos from the blog have since been circulated by exposé site Gutter Uncensored.
