Two more killed in deadly month on roads - ABC Online

Twenty people have died on Victorian roads this month, following the deaths of nine people since Friday.

This morning, another two people were killed in a car crash at St Albans, in Melbourne's west.

Another person was critically injured in the collision on St Albans Road.

Detective Sergeant Mark Amos was at the scene of that crash and is at a loss to explain the deaths.

"It is just absolute carnage," he said.

"It's unfortunately becoming an all too common thing for us, particularly this month.

"For some reason it's just gone silly on us and it's a disgrace."

Nearly two-thirds of the people killed on the state's roads this month died on country roads.

The Roads Minister Terry Mulder says a spike in the number of fatal accidents is extremely disturbing.

"We're doing everything we possibly can. It is a responsibility for every Victorian," he said.

"Governments can do so much, but it's a responsibility for every single Victorian to assist in this case."

Two others died in separate crashes in regional Victoria overnight.

In the first incident, a a 58-year-man was killed at Murchison, in central Victoria, when his quad bike flipped.

Hours later, another man died when his car hit a tree at Myamyn, near Heywood, in the state's west.

Another man died over the weekend after hitting a tree in Doncaster.

The provisional road toll for this year is 225, eight higher than the same time last year.
