LODI (CBS13) Five people were killed in a violent five-car crash in Lodi on Tuesday, say police.
The crash happened at Ham Lane and Vine Street in Lodi at around 5:20 p.m., according to Eric Bradley, a Lodi Police Dept. spokesperson. Among the dead are a young child, a pregnant woman and her unborn infant.
In addition to those killed, multiple people were injured in what police are calling a complex crash scene. The victims have been taken to local hospitals to be treated for unknown injuries.
The intersection will remain closed for several hours while investigators piece together details.
Police are treating the area as a crime scene.
Witnesses tell CBS13 they saw a vehicle traveling south on Ham Lane going over 80 mpg when it clipped one of the vehicles and caused a chain-reaction crash. They say the driver was on his cell phone at the time.
Police say the driver is a man in his 50s.
