Birmingham police make arrests for obscene activity at Veterans Memorial Park ... - The Birmingham News - al.com (blog)

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham police have made arrests regarding obscene activity at Veterans Memorial Park on Old Overton Road.

Vice detectives made the arrests Thursday after receiving reports of obscene activity at the park, Birmingham Police Department spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams Jr. said. The reports mostly referred to different kinds of obscene sexual activity, Williams said.

Several people were arrested, though Williams did not have an exact number, and they face misdemeanor charges ranging from indecent proposal to physical harassment, Williams said.

"We want the public to understand that we are taking charge," he said.

The names of those arrested have not been released because all of the charges are misdemeanors, he said.

"The Birmingham Vice Unit has a zero tolerance for these types of acts happening at public or private parks," Birmingham police Lt. Ron Sellers said in a news release. "We will monitor this location and make any and all appropriate arrests until these acts stop."
