There were some other students with the two girls, one of whom informed the teachers. According to a teacher, they went out and confronted Mondal at once who was still showing the videos to the students. He was caught immediately and the cell phone taken away. He was kept under lock and key in one of the rooms while the teachers called the police.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the teacher in charge of the school, police arrested Mondal. "He has been charged with sections 448 (trespassing), 294 (singing, reciting or uttering any obscene song in or near any public place) and 354A (outraging the modesty of a woman) IPC," said an investigating officer.

According to a school source, Mondal is a cook by profession and sometimes cooks the midday meal at the school when the regular cook is on leave. "There is every possibility that he took this chance to befriend the students," the source said.

"We found some obscene videos in his phone but these didn't feature any of the schoolgirls. Neither were the obscene messages related to the students," said an investigating officer.
