Police arrest 2 Elwood football players on drug charges - WISH

ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH) - Two Elwood High School football players were arrested right before Friday's game against Blackford High School, 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Herald Bulletin reports.

The students, ages 16 and 17, were arrested after the assistant football coach saw the two with hydrocodone pills. Police say 7.5 milligrams of the drug were in their possession at the time of arrest.

The teens were preliminarily charged with possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, a Class C felony. The 17-year-old was charged with dealing a Schedule III controlled substance on school grounds, a Class A felony.

They were released to their parents on Monday.

The students will automatically be waived to adult court if they have previous drug-related charges against them. If not, the Madison County Prosecutor's Office will make the decision on whether or not they will stay in juvenile court or move to adult court.
