Police arrest Ventura man on drug, weapon counts - Ventura County Star

A Ventura man stopped on suspicion of traffic infractions while riding a bike Monday night was arrested in connection with drug and weapon violations, officials said.

An officer saw James Bivens, 53, commit traffic infractions while riding his bike near Santa Cruz Street and Ocean Avenue about 9:50 p.m., Ventura police said. The officer stopped Bivens and suspected he was under the influence of a controlled substance, authorities said.

The officer searched Bivens and found a concealed handgun, ammunition and a large amount of narcotics for sale, officials said.

Bivens was booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of possessing a firearm, possessing a controlled substance for sale while in possession of a handgun and being under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, police said.
