2 men arrested over swords, drugs - AsiaOne

SINGAPORE - A grey car with a dent in its front right parked near the rubbish centre and three suspicious people loitering nearby.

This prompted some residents of Block 684B, Woodlands Drive 73 to call the police on Monday.

When the cops arrived, they found three samurai swords and a saw, and drugs hidden in the rental car.

According to Shin Min Daily News, three people - two men and a woman - were questioned at the scene.

The police later arrested the two men.

A resident who declined to give his details told reporters he saw the car parked near the rubbish centre when he sent his son to school at 6am on Monday.

He said the car was parked with its left front tyre on the kerb and that there was a dent in the front near the driver's side.

Another resident, a housewife, who gave her name only as Mrs Chong, told Shin Min Daily that the police were at the scene when she returned to the block around 11.30am.

The police said they received a call at 11am on Monday requesting assistance at that block and that they found "weapons and drugs in the car".

They confirmed that they "arrested two suspects" and are investigating the case.

Ornamental weapons such as samurai swords, daggers and spears are sold only with a licence, and buyers must submit a declaration form with their personal particulars.

In a recent case, delivery man Feizal Abu Bakar, 28, pleaded guilty on June 18, to voluntarily hurting his neighbour with a samurai sword on Jan 7 this year.

He wielded the sword with a 40cm-long blade, and slashed Madam Wirdawati Che Muning, 37, on her head, leg, and back.

Feizal was sentenced to 18 months' jail and two strokes of the cane for hurting Madam Wirdawati and his Indonesian wife, Madam Syamsuriyati, 34.

Under the law, the punishment for the unlawful possession of weapons is a jail term of up to five years and at least six strokes of the cane.
