2012: Drones kill 319 Own people killed 1200 Karachiites - Pakistan Observer

IslamabadIn the ongoing calendar year 2012, the US drones have killed 318 persons while our own people in Karachi have claimed lives of more than 1,200 people in targeted killings and other violence.

From Jan to Oct 14, 2012, a total of 40 incidents of drone attacks had been reported in which 318 persons have lost their lives while 34 sustained injuries.

However, from Jan-Oct 2012, one cannot count the number of incidents of targeted killings and violence in Karachi that have claimed more than 1,200 lives and ruined hundreds of families. This may be a very small number when we keep in mind the average daily killing of 6-8 persons in Karachi, being reported by the media.

If we take into account average killings in the city from Jan-Oct 23, 2012, the number of the victims of targeted killings and major violence could be around 2,400. In other words, our own people betrothed in full-scale killings in Karachi are more dreadful and ruthless than drone attacks.

For the past couple of months, once again Karachi turned into a battlefield, where every day 10 to 15 people are losing their lives in targeted killings and incidents of sporadic firing. The whole nation is watching daily haplessly the unabated incidents of bloodshed in Karachi through electronic and print media that expose the negligence and incompetence of the law enforcement agencies and the coalition partners in the government like the PPP, MQM and ANP.

Every sane person in the country knows the gangsters behind the ongoing gory war in the financial capital of Pakistan, but the law enforcement agencies and coalition partners in government are just coming up with lame excuses and justifications and they appear totally helpless in eliminating bloodshed in Karachi that has triggered hatred and damaging the national harmony.

Six parties, MQM, PPPs Liyari Group, ANP, Sunny Tehreek, MQM Haqiqi and Jiay Sindh are being blamed for fanning killings, extortion of money and ethnicity in mega city of Pakistan.

The situation had been worsened to such an extent that last week the business community in Karachi had called for the deployment of army in the city to restore peace and put an end to bloodshed. Political analysts believe that instead of pursuing the policy of compromise just to prolong their tenure and to make whole-hearted struggle for another term, the coalition partners in the government must come up with solid measures to end bloodshed in Karachi, restore peace and revive the true spirit of the financial capital of Pakistan.

Otherwise, somebody else will control the realm of power and shatter the dreams of those who are vying for another term irrespective of ongoing serious bloodshed in mega city, lawlessness, extortion of money, kidnapping for ransom and poor governance.
