Cayon murder victim's spouse in police custody - SKNVibes.com

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE father of one of the two children of the vendor who was killed on Friday (Dec. 14) morning was taken into custody and is assisting police with their investigation.

     

    According to a release from the Police Force's Public Relations Office, "Police are investigating a possible domestic violence incident that may have lead to the death of a resident of Whyte's Mountain in Cayon. The victim's spouse was taken into custody and is assisting the police with the investigation."

     

    Speaking with WINN FM's Senior Reporter Toni Frederick, Commissioner of Police Celvin 'CG' Walwyn confirmed that the woman's spouse was in custody and declared that the police believe they were dealing with a case of domestic violence.

     

    "So far we are actively investigating the case. Based on what we see so far, and we cannot comment officially until we are certain, it appears to be domestic violence at this point and our sympathies are for the family of the victim at this time. Our team, who was just trained by the FBI, the homicide investigators, the Violence Crimes Unit, they are presently on the scene investigating, and as more information becomes available we will be very happy to update the public."

     

    The Commissioner, at that time, said the name of the deceased could not have been released. This media house was however informed that the victim's name is Myra Archibald, who used to regularly ply her trade on the sidewalk of Fort Street in downtown Basseterre.

     

    The police release had also stated that the public would be updated once the autopsy reveals the cause of death.

     

    "At this time the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force wishes to extend our condolences to the family of the victim and to remind everyone that there is no excuse for domestic violence. The SVU of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force stands by to investigate any claim of crimes against children and domestic violence," it added.

     

    Information reaching SKNVibes stated that Archibald was shot sometime after midnight on Friday and her motionless body was found lying on a track leading to the house which she shared with the father of one of her two children at Whyte's Mountain in Upper Cayon.

     

    It also stated that she was in the company of a male who ran away from the scene, while her five-year-old daughter ran to the safety of the Cayon Police Station after witnessing her mother being shot.

     

    SKNVibes visited the crime scene yesterday and observed the blood-spattered area upon which Archibald's body was found and also her house that was burnt to the ground. Her vehicle was also set on fire.

     

    Myra Archibald's death has taken to 16 the total murders committed in the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis for the year.
