Eleven arrested, 60 bags of cocaine seized in Salem City drug raid - Today's Sunbeam - NJ.com

SALEM — Police arrested 11 city residents on drug charges and seized 60 bags of cocaine following a month-long investigation into an alleged narcotics distribution network out of a residence on Union Street, authorities said.

According to Salem County Prosecutor John T. Lenahan, authorities began investigating a location on Union Street following numerous complaints by residents in the area.

After an extensive investigation into the residence, which spanned about a month, authorities from the Prosecutor's Office, New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit, Salem County Sheriff's Office, and the Salem City Police Department executed a search warrant on the property at 8 p.m. on Friday.

During the search, authorities said they found and arrested nine subjects inside the residence. Two additional subjects were also encountered by officers outside the residence, allegedly engaging in a drug transaction.

Officers said they located 46 bags of cocaine inside the residence, and another 14 bags of cocaine were found just outside the residence.

The following individuals were arrested during the search and charged with narcotics-related offenses:

• Robert Smith, 51, Salem; possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with the intent to distribute CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance.

• Thomas Daniels, 46, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with the intent to distribute CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.

• Richard Lipscomb, 53, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance.

• Keishawn Rodgers, 19, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence. He was lodged in the correctional facility on $15,000 bail.

• Terry Mercado, 36, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged on $40,000 bail. Additionally, Mercado had an outstanding Salem City Municipal Court Warrant with $1,000 bail.

• Elwood Moore, 54, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance.

• Ulundi Lackey, 18, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia. Lackey was lodged on $10,000 bail.

• Edward Price, 51, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance.

• Kalif Rodgers, 24, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged on $15,000 bail

• Saudah Foster, 28, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering with the purpose to commit a CDS Offense. She was released on her own recognizance.

• Rhea Sorrell, 19, Salem; possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on her own recognizance.

Additionally, Vonell Clayton, 22, of Salem, was observed by perimeter officers during the search warrant and was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued on Nov. 27 on armed robbery charges. Clayton allegedly robbed two victims of $400 at gun point. He was remanded to the Salem County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail.

Following the arrests, Lenahan said combined law enforcement efforts will continue to crack down on drug offenders.

"This is another example of collaborative police work where officers from various departments have worked together to stem the distribution of drugs in Salem County," said Lenahan. "These efforts will continue."

Salem City Police Chief John Pelura added, "The Salem Police Department will continue to work with any and all law enforcement agencies in order to apprehend those engaged in criminal activity and to deter those who have not yet been caught. These criminals continue to give Salem a bad image. We will do everything in our power to change that image."
