McAllen police arrested three men and seized 61 fighting roosters Thursday, along with marijuana and cocaine, from home on West Dallas Avenue.

Police charged Francisco Jesus Rodriguez, 39, of McAllen; Jesus Felix, 25, of McAllen; and Javier Solis, 34, of McAllen with cockfighting, a Class A misdemeanor. Police also charged Rodriguez with first-degree and third-degree felonies for 162 pounds of marijuana and less than 1 gram of cocaine found at the home.

Investigators searched the home on the 2300 block of West Dallas Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, said Police Chief Victor Rodriguez. They'd received a tip about suspicious activity.

Based on the initial investigation, police believe the roosters were connected to a cockfighting operation.

All three men were arraigned Friday morning in McAllen Municipal Court.

Both Felix and Solis each received a $10,000 bond on the cockfighting charges. Francisco Jesus Rodriguez received a combined $90,000 bond for all three charges.
