Paramus Police Encounter Obscene Language: Results In Marijuana Arrest t - ParamusPost.com

On 12/27/12 at 1115pm, Paramus Police Lt. Sal LaFerlita was patrolling the south lot of the Garden State Plaza when his attention was drawn to a man who was yelling obscene language. Lt. LaFerlita approached the man, later identified as 19 year old Joel Berliner of Englewood, and asked him to refrain from using such language.


Mr. Berliner refused the request from the officer and became belligerent. Lieutenant LaFerlita approached Mr. Berliner and detected an odor of marijuana coming from him. Further investigation by Lt. LaFerlita revealed that Mr. Berliner was in possession of a small bag of marijuana. He was placed under arrest and transported to Paramus Police Headquarters. He was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams. He was later released pending court appearance.
