Mlawa Ndumbogane, 33, and Zimbabwean Mufungo Ngara, 39, were caught when they tried to take the body from a funeral parlour in Harare last week. The dead man has been identified as Ally Omari Mpili, of Tanzania.
State prosecutors say Mpili swallowed 80 capsules containing 1.4 kg of heroin in Tanzania before boarding a bus to Harare. The capsules ruptured in his?intestines, killing him.
The official Herald newspaper reported: "Mpili, it is alleged, sought accommodation and slept in Braeside, Harare, where he died the same night."
Suspecting Mpili had ingested drugs, police took his body to the funeral parlour, while they arranged for a post-mortem at Harare's Parirenyatwa Hospital. When Ndumbogane and Ngara tried to collect the corpse, undertakers alerted the police.
A government pathologist found the capsules in Mpili's?intestines the following day.
The two men appeared in court on Monday and were remanded in custody until 12?November.
