NORTH AUSTIN

A man was shot twice in the abdomen during an attempted robbery at a Northeast Austin apartment complex Saturday, police said.

The man in his mid-40s, whose identity was not released, was working on his car about 12:50 a.m. in the Reinli Arms Apartments near Interstate 35 and Reinli Street, police said.

Two men in a gray sedan got out of their vehicle and demanded the man's wallet, the official said.

The official said it was not known if the man refused to give his wallet, but the men then shot the victim twice in the abdomen.

A police official said the victim was alert and conscious when he was taken to the University Medical Center Brackenridge. His condition was not immediately available.
