HICKORY N.C.– A Taylorsville woman was arrested Friday afternoon after police received a call about a drug-related transaction under way at the Sandy Ridge Plaza.

Ashley Jayne Lee, 36, was charged with one count of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule II controlled substance and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Lee was also charged on an outstanding warrant with misdemeanor possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

According to Lt. Scott Hildebrand of the Hickory Police Department, the caller informed the department that a woman matching Lee's description was in a vehicle in the plaza's parking lot and appeared to be purchasing drugs from a person standing in the lot.

An officer arrived at the parking lot, located at 1261 16th St. NE, and found a vehicle matching the caller's description with Lee inside.

When the officer approached her vehicle, Lee appeared to be hiding something or reaching for a weapon, Hildebrand said. The officer searched her vehicle and seized 6.2 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The other suspect the caller mentioned left the scene before the officer arrived.

Lee is held in the Catawba County Justice Center under a $7,500 bond. She is scheduled to be in court on Dec. 10.
