Deputy arrested for trading drugs for sexual favors, authorities say - WBTV

BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A Burke County Sheriff's deputy was arrested for allegedly trading drugs for sexual favors, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office says it received information several weeks ago that a deputy was trading prescription medications for sexual favors. The Sheriff requested the SBI to investigate the matter.

Robert Keith Whisnant, 45, was arrested by the SBI on Monday while trying to exchange prescription pills for sexual favors, deputies told WBTV.

He was charged with one count of Possession with the Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule III Controlled Substance.  He was released in lieu of a $10,000 unsecured bond.

He has a first appearance court date in NC District Court, Morganton, on Tuesday, October 9.

Officials say Whisnant started as a jailer in 1994, and his last position was as a patrol officer.

He was terminated from the Sheriff's Office as of Monday.
