Drug dealer arrested - NewsDay

A 41-year-old Nyanga drug dealer Lovemore Tisaumwe has been slapped with a five-year jail term for possession of 26kg of dagga.

REPORT BY OBEY MANAYITI STAFF REPORTER

Tisaumwe was found guilty of contravening Section 156 of the Criminal (Codification and Reform) Act which prohibits unlawful possession of dangerous drugs when he appeared before Nyanga magistrate Ignatio Mhene last Thursday.

He will, however, serve an effective four years after one year was suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Charges against Tisaumwe are that on December 13 he boarded a commuter omnibus at Troutbeck in Nyanga heading to Mutare with a bag stuffed with mbanje.

Unbeknown to him, the kombi had two police officers who immediately demanded to search the bags and recovered the drug.

Tisaumwe was then arrested and handed over to police in Nyanga while his contraband was confiscated.

In passing sentence, the court noted that cases of drug dealing were on the increase and as such a deterrent sentence could restrain would-be offenders. Zivanayi Gombarume prosecuted.
