Holyoke police confiscate guns, drugs in arrest - MassLive.com

HOLYOKE — Police arrested four people on a variety of drug and illegal weapons charges Sunday as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

During the arrest, officers confiscated five unlawful firearms and heroin, cocaine and marijuana.City police did not immediately release the names of those who were arrested or the amount of drugs they found.

"It was a good-sized arrest," said Det. Anthony Brach, adding that more information would be released Monday.

Police attempted to arrest the suspects at about 5:30 p.m. on Mosher Street near the intersection of North Bridge Street. Two were immediately placed in handcuffs while several others ran, Brach said.

That caused a police chase throughout the neighborhood. Because the suspects ran into a commercial area where dumpsters are made, giving them an easy place to hide, the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing was called in to assist with the search, Brach said.

"They were heading up for another mission, so they swung over to help us," he said.

Police were able to apprehend the two other suspects fairly quickly, Brach said. The four were being held at the Holyoke Police Department until their arraignments Monday in Holyoke District Court, he said.
