Two people died Friday night when the motorcycle they were riding struck a deer in Union Parish, Louisiana.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Kenny Barrett, 63, of Marion, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 143 when it struck a deer that was crossing the road. The Harley-Davidson then drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
Barrett was wearing a DOT approved helmet and suffered fatal injuries. The passenger, Melinda Weeks, 52, of Marion, was wearing a helmet not approved by DOT and suffered fatal injuries. Barrett and Weeks were pronounced dead on scene by the Union Parish Coroner's office.
The accident happened about 8:20 p.m. on LA 143, south of Louisiana 827 south of Marion. Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F investigated.
