MARLBORO A motorcycle crash killed a man and a woman Friday on Route 9 in Marlboro.
Marlboro Deputy Fire Chief Rusty Sage said one person was dead at the scene and the other was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. An emergency room spokeswoman confirmed that both people died as a result of the crash.
Vermont State Police were still investigating the crash Friday night. The victims had not been named nor any other official information released at press time.
Sage said the motorcycle crash, which did not involve another vehicle, occurred mid-afternoon near the corner of Route 9 and Town Hill Road in Marlboro.
All Route 9 traffic went down to a single lane to allow first responders, police and fire departments to assist at the scene.
Sage did not say if anyone saw the crash or what kind of a motorcycle they were riding at the time of the crash.
I dont know if it was two- or three-wheel motorcycle or if they were traveling on (Route 9) and fell off the road or if they were driving in the woods, he said.
Police were investigating the crash scene down an embankment on the east side of Route 9. The investigation was still ongoing Friday evening and the motorcycle had not been removed from the wooded area.
Sage said Marlboro Fire and Rescue, Rescue Inc. of Brattleboro, Deerfield Valley Rescue of Wilmington and state police responded to the scene, while Brattleboro Fire Department was on standby.
