2013 homicide map: Six people killed on or near less than one-mile stretch of ... - Syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Six people have been killed in a roughly one-mile stretch of South Salina Street this year.

Monday night's stabbing death of Marvin "Pic" Bryant made the sixth homicide in that stretch of Syracuse's South Side.

In 2013, there were three people killed along the .8 mile stretch of South Salina Street that runs between West Borden Avenue and West Calthrop Avenue. Three others were killed about a block west of it.


Pizzeria owner Shqair Shqair was gunned down around six blocks south of West Calthrop Avenue on Oct. 1; Jim Giffords, 70, was killed while walking out of a 7-11 on South Avenue, less than a mile from West Brighton and South Salina Street; and Dylan Cheek, 18, was shot to death two days after he was released from prison in May.

There have been 20 total homicides in Syracuse in 2013. In 2012, there were 13.

Here's the list of people killed from South Salina Street and West Borden Avenue to South Salina Street and West Calthrop Avenue or about one block west.
