A 47-YEAR-OLD man of Kasama has been arrested for being in possession of obscene materials on his laptop.
And six prisoners facing various minor offences have escaped from Mpika State Prison. The inmates escaped as they were working outside the prison.
Daniel Thomet, who was allegedly purporting to be a tourist, was found in possession of obscene materials on his laptop carrying his image while having carnal knowledge of a girl who is yet to be identified by the police.
Police acting spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the incident happened between June 2013 at an unknown date and time and September 11, 2013 at 19:00 hours in Chishipula area in Kasama.
"The suspect has since been charged with being in possession of obscene materials and will appear in court soon," Mr Hamoonga said.
And Mr Hamoonga said the six prisoners escaped on September 12, 2013 around 10:00 hours but that one of them has returned to the prison.
He identified the escapees as Alick Kayongo, Gift Chanda, Ernest Kashiba, Lackson Chanda, Philemon Chumba and Kelvin Chanda, the inmate who handed himself back to the prison.
"We are appealing to members of the public from low density and the surrounding areas that may have information leading to the arrest of the wanted prisoners to come forth and report to any nearest police station," Mr Hamoonga said.
