CFL fines Riders QB Durant over obscene tweet - CBC.ca

Saskatchewan Roughrider quarterback Darian Durant has been fined by the CFL after swearing at a fan in a tweet. (Twitter)

The CFL fined Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant on Wednesday for tweeting out an f-bomb in response to a league fan.

In accordance with CFL policy, the league didn't disclose the amount of the penalty.

But Durant was fined for violating the league's social media policy when he sent an offensive message via his Twitter account.

The offending tweet has been deleted from Durant's Twitter feed, but a screen capture sent to CBC News shows that he responded to a fan's complaint that he wasn't running enough, "like at the beginning of the season."

"Wasn't running at the beginning of the season dumb f**k" was Durant's reply. He didn't use stars.

The Riders have been struggling on the field in recent weeks.The team is 8-5 after losing four games in a row.

Other CFL Fines 

Toronto Argonauts defensive lineman Cleyon Laing was fined on Wednesday for his nasty helmet-to-helmet hit last weekend on Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly.

After the hit, Reilly was evaluated on the field and remained in the game for one more play, throwing a TD pass. Upon returning to the sidelines, he was found to be showing concussion-like symptoms and was replaced by backup Kerry Joseph.

On Sunday, the Eskimos confirmed Reilly had suffered a concussion in Toronto's 34-22 victory.

In a statement, the CFL announced it was fining Laing for "a reckless and dangerous hit," to Reilly's head. The league determined on the play that Laing "lowered his head and led with
his helmet, making primary contact with the helmet of his opponent."

Laing was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play.
