Eagleman sentenced for DUI crash that killed 4 people in Big Horn County - KRTV Great Falls News

HELENA - Bruce Wayne Eagleman, Jr., a 25-year-old resident of Crow Agency, was sentenced in federal court in Helena on Thursday to more than 33 years (405 months) in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of four people in Big Horn County.

Corma Jefferson- Fire Bear, 19, Frankie Knows His Gun Jr., 17, Marva Howe Knows His Gun, 41, and Vincent Fighter-Davies, 27, died in a two-car crash on December 29, 2011.

Court documents state that Eagleman took his mother's 2006 Dodge Durango and told her that he was leaving to go check the mail. Instead, he left the house and met with Fighter-Davies.

Eagleman and Fighter-Davies drove to a friend's house in Crow Agency. Shortly thereafter, Eagleman, Fighter-Davies, and a friend drove to Hardin.

Eagleman had already reportedly consumed four malt liquors earlier in the afternoon, and as he drove to Hardin, the friend said Eagleman began to drive more erratically.

Eagleman first drove to a pawn shop, where he pawned a few items and received $10. Eagleman used the $10 to buy a liter of Nikolai gin.

He then drove to another pawn shop. At the pawn shop, an employee observed that Eagleman was extremely intoxicated. She saw Eagleman leave and get in the driver's seat of the Durango.

After leaving the pawn shops, Eagleman made a few more stops for gas and at another friend's house. Finally, he drove to the grocery store where he purchased two cans of Mike's Hard Lemonade and left the store.

Eagleman dropped the friend off in Hardin, which left just Fighter-Davies in the car with Eagleman. Eagleman then drove back to Crow Agency by way of the two-lane East Frontage Road. Initially he drove in the correct lane of travel - the southbound lane.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., however, Eagleman crossed into the northbound lane of the road and directly in front of an oncoming car.

The other driver attempted to drive to the left to avoid the oncoming crash, but was unsuccessful. The passenger side of Eagleman's Durango collided with the passenger side of the other car in the northbound lane of traffic. A witness drove up almost immediately and saw Eagleman in the driver's seat of the Durango.

Responding medical and law enforcement saw that Fighter-Davies was still alive, but he could not breathe well. He died shortly thereafter.

The other driver had two passengers in her car, both of whom died on scene. An ambulance took the driver to the hospital where she died.
Eagleman suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital.

Soon after the crash, at 6:52 p.m. that evening, his blood alcohol content was .257. He also tested positive for opiates and THC.

"Bruce Eagleman killed four people on the Crow Indian Reservation while driving drunk. The Montana United States Attorney's Office takes very seriously the danger of drunk driving in Indian Country. This sentence imposed today will not bring back the four people he killed, but it will justly punish Mr. Eagleman for his actions and serve as deterrence to the general public from engaging in similar criminal conduct." said U.S. Attorney Michael Cotter.

(December 30, 2011) The names of the four people killed in the fatal crash 5 ½ miles north of Crow Agency Thursday have been released and the Montana Highway Patrol has released new information about the head-on crash.

19- year-old Corma Jefferson- Fire Bear and 17-year-old Frankie Knows His Gun Jr. of Crow Agency were killed during the collision between a Ford Mustang the two were riding in, and a Dodge Durango.

The driver of the Mustang was Frankie's mother, 41-year-old Marva Howe Knows His Gun, who died after being transported to the medical center in Crow Agency.

The Montana Highway Patrol now believes the Mustang and Durango turned into each other after the Mustang tried to avoid the Durango, which had swerved into the opposite lane of the frontage road between Hardin and Crow Agency.

MHP Trooper Eric Winburn says that he believes the driver of the Durango, 25-year-old Bruce Eagleman, had been drinking at the time of the crash.

The passenger in the Durango, which rolled after the collision, was 27-year-old Vincent Fighter-Davies.

Davies was also rushed to the medical center in Crow Agency where he died.

Eagleman was taken to St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings where he remained Friday.

His condition is unknown but Q2 has been told he is expected to survive his injuries.
