Middletown, Cromwell Police Make Arrests, Seize Drugs - Hartford Courant

MIDDLETOWN — Police from Middletown and Cromwell seized nearly $20,000 worth of heroin and made several arrests Wednesday evening as part of an investigation into drug dealing in both towns.

Among those arrested was Jesse Goodrich, 32, a registered sex offender who led police on a short low-speed chase and claimed he was on PCP before being shot with a stun gun and arrested, police said.

On Wednesday evening, police tried to stop a pickup truck that Goodrich was driving on Congdon Street East in Middletown. Although Goodrich pulled to the right after police tried to stop him, he then kept moving, police said. Officers from both towns were able to stop him in front of 256 Congdon Street East after what they described as a "low speed pursuit."

A woman in the pickup truck with Goodrich, identified as Sarah J. Jordan, 21, of Galloway, Ohio, was removed from the truck by police as other officers tried to get Goodrich out.

Police said they ordered Goodrich out of the truck, but he refused, and as an officer got the driver door open, the truck accelerated forward and struck a garage door. Officers tried to pull Goodrich out, but he resisted, and when he was outside he swung his arms wildly until an officer grabbed Goodrich's arm, police said.

Goodrich then began yelling, "I can't give you my arms, I'm on PCP," police said. Officers continued to struggle with Goodrich and said they had to use a Taser to gain control of him. Once police had Goodrich in handcuffs he continued to yell that he was on PCP, police said.

Police said they found heroin in the truck and $330 in cash in Goodrich's pocket.

Detectives said that when they began to question Jordan, she started to cry, said she was scared and said she wanted to talk to police away from Goodrich. She told police that when they tried to stop Goodrich, he handed her a bag of heroin and told her to hide it or he would kill her. She then told police she hid the heroin in her vagina.

A female detective from Cromwell then took Jordan aside as she produced a bag containing 100 bags of heroin.

She was charged with possession of heroin and tampering with evidence and held on $1,000 bail for arraignment Thursday in Middletown.

Police, using a search warrant Wednesday night at the Cromwell home that Goodrich was sharing with two others at 1307 Cromwell Hills Drive, seized 99 bags of heroin, 14 bags of heroin labeled "blood money" and drug paraphernalia. The street value of the heroin was $19,600 if sold in individual bags, police said.

Goodrich was charged with driving under the influence, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, driving without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a drug factory, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, distribution of narcotics near a school, possession of narcotics, risk of injury to a child and other charges.

Cromwell police charged Nichole Landry, 40, with possession of narcotics, sale of narcotics, risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment. Police said Landry's 2-year-old child was living with her and Goodrich. She also left her child unattended, police said, while she went to a package store. The state Department of Children and Families was notified and the child was turned over to another caregiver, police said.
