Forty-four people killed in terrorist attacks across Iraq - Press TV

In the deadliest incident, a bomber attacked Khalid Bin al-Waleed Mosque in Dora neighborhood in the south of the capital late on Saturday, leaving 16 people dead, Reuters reported.

In the south of the city, nine people were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near a cafe in the Dura area.

In western Baghdad, seven people were killed when an explosive-laden car detonated near the Mulla Hwesh Mosque in Hay al-Jamia district.

Elsewhere, a car packed with explosives detonated near a funeral tent in Zahra village of Baqouba, a city located about 50 km (30 miles) northeast of Baghdad. Four policemen and a civilian died in the explosion, AFP reported.

In Madain, south of Baghdad, a roadside bomb killed two people and wounded at least seven.

In a separate incident, a roadside bomb in the Shia-majority city of Muqdadiyah killed two people and wounded five. Minutes later a second explosion ripped through the crowd who had gathered at the scene, wounding four others.

Meanwhile, gunmen killed a shop owner in Baqouba and an army officer in the northern city of Mosul.

A soldier was also gunned down and another wounded in the northern city of Kirkuk.

Iraq has been experiencing a surge in terrorist attacks in recent months.

Iraqi officials say the violence is part of a foreign-backed plot to provoke sectarian strife in the country.
