A Maryland state trooper was hit by a car during a traffic stop in Anne Arundel County early Sunday and was listed in serious condition at the shock trauma center at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Trooper Jacqueline A. Kline was walking on the shoulder of Route 100 to help another trooper with a suspected drunk driver. She was struck by a 21-year-old man from Pasadena, Md., near Annapolis, who was exiting at Catherine Avenue, Maryland State Police said.

Kline hit the hood of the man's car and was propelled into the back of the other trooper's vehicle, striking the windshield. She landed in a ditch, where she was picked up by a U.S. Park Police helicopter and taken to the trauma center.

As of late Sunday afternoon, no charges had been filed against the driver.

11 people injured

in six-vehicle crash

A six-car crash on Crain Highway in Brandywine on Sunday afternoon left 11 people injured, Maryland State Police said, and one vehicle caught fire.

Mark Brady of the Prince George's County Fire Department said one person suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash just after 2:30 p.m., and two others were in trauma care.

The rescue effort involved three fire engines, a rescue engine, five ambulances, three medic units and at least one helicopter, Brady said.

Two killed when
car hits barrier

Two young adults were killed in a car crash early Sunday in Fairfax County, authorities said.

Devin Austin, 21, of Triangle crashed into an underpass barrier on Van Dorn Street near Vine Street about 3 a.m. He and Aminata Sesay, 23, of Alexandria died on the scene. A third passenger was taken to the hospital.

Speed may have been a factor in the 3 a.m. crash, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Woman killed in Loudoun crash

A female passenger in a minivan was killed in Loudoun County on Friday in a collision with a car that had crossed the center line of Route 50 in the Aldie area, the county sheriff's office said.

The woman was riding in the back of the van, and was not wearing a seat belt, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver of the van was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in serious condition. The driver of the SUV and the four other survivors from the minivan were treated at a hospital and released, authorities said.

They said the case remained under investigation.
